This documentary suggests that all religions around the mediterraneans are built on astronomy and the semitic religions have just copied Egyptian, Greek, Persian and other older religions. Therefore, according to the documentary, all of it is made up.
No. There are analogies between all religions so what?
Noah Sullivan
I agree, but that they're all based on astronomy, such as the date of birth of Jesus, the three wise kings, virgin Maria, the crucifixion, the resurrection, etc. According to the documentary, all of this is just based on astronomy and older religions.
Isaac Gonzalez
>Zeitgeist hahahaha oh wow holy crap user
None of those similarities are anything more than superficial, and most of the them are really just gross misinterpretations or just outright lies.
Carson Morris
That's the conclusion i'm trying to reach but i'd like to see if there's any sources that could suggest that it's right.
Christian Barnes
I hope you are just arguing against all religions being rehash and not just being one of these "christianism is so unique and special!!!" memers.
Carson Lee
There really isn't. For example a huge lynchpin of this argument is often the star over Bethlehem during the Nativity, which is only mentioned (in passing) in one gospel as a minor detail. The videographer doesn't have a very strong understanding of Christianity and any basic apologist could blow him out of the water.
Jordan Edwards
define minor detail. it's the key aspect of the subplot of the wise men. not defending zietgeist but you're minimizing it
Landon Garcia
No, but Zeitgeist is arguing primarily against christianity.
It's only mentioned in Matthew, in a passage that has limited theological significance, as opposed to Luke's account of the Nativity and the adoration of the shepherds.
Does he still make the Sun=Son connection? Because that alone should discredit his entire enterprise. Off the top of my head, even admitting it's been years since I've seen it, he also claims that the Gautama Buddha was born of a virgin which plainly isn't true. He also relies on the Sol Invinctus connection with Jesus' birth in December, which again is discredited by Ante-Nicene apologists.
I can't remember that argument was brought up. Anyways, i think a lot of the information was simply wrong.
Logan Phillips
Is what made up? Jesus explicitly states that he came to correct the religions before him. So, Semitic/Abrahamic religions could have copied some aspects of other religions. All religions would say there is a god though correct? You seem to be asking two different questions.
Bentley Cooper
Basically, from what I found by doing some of my own research, the other gods weren't born on december 25th by a virgin, didn't have 12 followers, wasn't crucified at the age of 33 and resurrected 3 days after. It claims that all this happened to other gods from egyptian, persian, greek, and hindu religions.
Doesn't that movie have 9/11 bullshit and then end with some weird communist-like propaganda?
Leo Edwards
Yeap. It's retarded.
Luis Morgan
The details doesn't have to match if the overall schematic does. Also, the gods doesn't have to be identical for people to start sensing heterodox. All that takes is a blend of new old ideas.
Benjamin Foster
*new and old ideas.
Jaxson Wilson
Hmm, I might not have used the correct vocabulary when using the term 'heterodox'. What I meant was the blending of different religious ideas.
Jayden Morales
If God existed then he wouldn't subject us to seeing this shitty thread every other day.
