Get a hardware wallet

If you have any decent holdings in crypto, fork out a hundred dollars and get a hardware wallet.

Don't be one of the pink wojaks raging about losing it all to phishing, or a super secure sally who forgets their private key...

Get.. a... hardware... wallet.

Thank me later.

Why not just make several copies of a paper wallet, laminate them, and lock them up in several safe places?

Why bother? A harder and less secure method than a hardware wallet.

Why not just store a MEW Keystore File on a USB tick?

Because unless you air gap it, you will have exposed it all to teh big bad internetz.

>less secure

How?

Unless you hand write it you've used a computer to type in the key, exposing it to the big bad internets.

If you didn't generate your hardware wallet on a fresh, offline, linux installation with a processor made before 2009 and drew the QR code by hand your private key may get leaked.

>hardware wallet gets smashed/stolen
>lose all your money

I added my private keys inside the code of an image file I keep backed up on an external harddrive and google drive. I also printed them out directly and put them in my safe. I'm fine.

Unless you inject yourself with neurotoxic muscle stimulants that move your hand in a specific pattern that writes out the key while you're unconscious, you're exposed to thought theft by witches and psychokinesis.

haha exactly...

You have a recovery seed that you hand write.

lol storing it on google drive.

I have my private keys hand written by my mom directly on the inside of my penis glans.

Well you need a microscope to see your penis, what do you need to read your moms writing?

If you knew how hardware wallets work, you wouldn't say this.

Minesweeper

>tfw a hardware wallet is worth more than my crypto

Can you give me a quick rundown on hardware wallets?

>Can you give me a quick rundown on hardware wallets?

Are you too lazy to google?

> Keep a couple of paper wallets in locked storage.
> Store credentials / seed inside KeePass on Boxcryptor.
> Password your KeePass Database.
> Create a Key File for your KeePass Database and keep it on a USB.

It's not hard.

I am right now, but since you have one maybe you can share your experience with it. Always good to ask.

I have not had s problem with exchanges in ~4 years

>> Create a Key File for your KeePass Database and keep it on a USB.

This is somehow easier than a hardware wallet, that has functions like shapeshift and the ability to create one time wallets and unique receipt addresses to mask where funds are being sent and received from?

>google drive

all muh keks

Reformatted computer with no Internet capabilities. How is this not secure?

I'm sure hardware wallets have some nice features, I'm just saying you don't need them to be secure.

Mt Gox.

How much do you hold on an exchange?

I had 80k on Polo, and it was an annoying 40 days to get it out.

It's really just all about how you store your recovery seed. Hardware wallet is just convenient if I want to access funds quickly and easily.

nobody really knowing how hardware wallets work hahahahah

>Veeky Forums/biz/

You can store on the cloud if you use an encryption service, requires trust though. Best to use an encryption service then have it passworded / key locked at the file level as well.

>Reformatted computer with no Internet capabilities. How is this not secure?

Cool that is. Is it easy and are you able to take a device that is protected by a pin (or 25 word pass phrase) any where in the world with no chance of anyone accessing your crypto?

True, but it is secure and it is easy to use. The amount of posts you see on here

'I formatted my HDD with my keys'

'I forgot my recovery seed' etc etc.

Alright I'll buy a new computer on the black market, format it and and never plug it to the net. Start up minecraft offline then mine my private key in the ground which can only be viewed and recognized from a certain spot, write down the coordinates and roll the paper into my fake back tooth. Then I'll teleport away from the spot and use the bed. I'll store away the map into a fresh USB drive which I'll then tape to my anus.

Done.

Or you can use a cheap hardware wallet.

But muh shitcoins, there are no hardware wallets for muh shitcoins.

What if it's stolen by aliens?

>But muh shitcoins, there are no hardware wallets for muh shitcoins.

That would be point number two, drop the shitcoins... I did, and now I can sleep at night.

You use your recovery seed and recover your wallet.

let's say that my drive account is compromised, you seriously think someone will look inside the code of each stupid photo i have stored on there?

6 figures in crypto stored on the same machine that I use to look at porn.

AMA.

>AMA

How do you sleep at night.

Tell you what, once I have a lot of BTC I'll get a hardware wallet.

>You use your recovery seed and recover your wallet.

Fair point, I have 11 and the 30 eth, that was when I decided to get serious about security.

1. buy a ledger nano s

2. make sure it's not chink'd
support.ledgerwallet.com/knowledge_base/topics/how-to-verify-the-security-integrity-of-my-nano-s

3. generate your seed

4. reset your ledger so yo have to confirm your seed

5. buy a thick as fuck hard to lose book

6. write down your seed in the book(word 1 and page 10 word 2 on page 20 etc)

8. burry the book in the woods or something if you want to

now you are safe

Wouldn't ETH hardware wallet also store ERC20 tokens?

The recovery seed method is inviting disaster.

I bought a safe off gumtree, 150kg RRP of around 2k with all the correct ratings etc.

Somewhere to keep your passports and important docs as well.

>ERC20 tokens

Trezor uses myetherwallet, but stores your private keys on the device.

So yes, it can secure any tokens etc supported by myether wallet.

>buy ledger nano
>lose it the next day
>bury book in the woods
>forget location

all my moni gone, user. thanks a lot.

Under rated 10/10

not to mention some rich jew decides to build a castle in the woods and your book is now guarded by fucking dobermans

What if I get killed though? Is there a recovery password for that?

Yes. It's "I accept Jesus as my lord and savior".

I tell myself that mac + ublock is safe enough.

I got a tattoo of my recovery seed.

My investment is 300 so I cant justift buying 100 to protect it.

I think cold storage on a linux server is fine

>My investment is 300 so I cant justift buying 100 to protect it.
>I think cold storage on a linux server is fine

That makes sense. I think anything more than 0.5 BTC needs a hardware wallet though.

You have fucking peanuts kid you don't need to bother with a trezor unless u got 50k+ or something

Kek

I've had my trezor private key displayed on my computer screen I'm sure anyone with screen mirroring could've seen my shit, no? My key could potentially leak?

Now they will you fucking doofus

My cousin trades crypto on a 2013 LG tablet and iPhone 5c. He has no PC. He has 5 btc on bittrex and like 15 on Gemini

You mean like this?

Yes I store my veriniggertaseum shittokens on my trezor. That fucking nigger better not squander my cash

If that is what he can afford to lose, more power to him.

That's still fucking nothing I know people who trade on tablets with more skin in the game. No point in trezor unless you have 21 btc+ you little faggot

You know people? So you've got nothing?

haha angry t-nocoiner detected.

It in fact puts me well within the top 0.66 percent of bitcoin holders in the world.

EADC.

No ones losing anything there's no point in storing little bits on trezor and spending transfer fees anytime you wanna exchange for shit coin. Unless of course you got 21btc and you're just gonna sit on it and ignore it/ not flip it

No one advised anyone to store 'small bits' on the Trezor.

I maintain on polo my trading stock.

I have a nano ledger for my mined BTC .

Everything has its place, everything is compartmentalised.

Man I don't post my shit on a underground Taiwanese novelty dildo appreciation forum. How about I just rob you when btc is really gonna kick off? You don't know what I'm gonna rob you with cus I don't post my fucking aresnal online

If you can rob peoples hardware wallets I would hope you go for far bigger fish than me my friend.

Where'd you get your ledger nano you fucking pussy. Do you prefer trezor for larger sums and ledger for smaller? Polo is gay they go down too much

Bruh you said it here yourself. You'll be top 60% of the 1%. Why wouldn't I rob you and boost myself to top 1/3 of 1%??? Of course I'm not gonna rob you irl but you better start thinking of these scenarios. Its about to get wild wild West when btc is 13.5k+ in February

Trezor or Nano Ledger?

Please explain this to security-pajeet;

- How is hardware wallet SECURE, couldn't those hardware wallet manufacturers throw in some back doors in their chippy chips and sticks?

How the fuck are people comfortable with buying Le Secure Crypto USB and putting their money there, in this day n age where we KNOW, for a fact, NSA's been putting backdoors on routers by infiltrating production facilities, for years now...

Enlighten me.

>USB stick
>>you will have exposed it all to teh big bad internetz.
retard confirmed

You can look up the fags who developed trezor and you have your private key. That's pretty much the whole point, have your private key

It is safe to buy a nano s from a third seller on Amazon ?

>all my holdings are stake coins

Holding my coins in a hardware wallet would literally earn me nothing. until they allow hardware wallets to stake I'm not involved

You can definitely do this. The only point to trezor is you can't access the bit without putting in the sequence on the lil screen. Apparently its super hacker malware proof I don't know maybe its a gimmick but I've heard nothing but positive stuff about it. Id say absolutely safestbis paper wallet in a safe

audibly giggled

What's wrong with myetherwallet?

look you can probably get by with myetherwallet if you are careful.

i have trezor and i like it. but if i lose that then i lose everything

Metal wallets are better than paper wallets. Engraving tools only cost $20 or so.

so why not just handwrite it?

What's the quickest safest way to create paper wallet?

Me too

Goddamn people like you are pure cancer.
