Arctic is just a place on the map unlike Antarctic which is a continent on its own.
Also the history of Arctic exploration is really fucked up to the point that we don't know who was first at the North Pole. Three first claims were probably forged.

In the heroic age alone there were over 25 deaths (depends how you count because some people died right after coming back). Of course Shackleton, Scott, Amundsen and Mawson all deserve recognition.
