I recently came into posession of a German atlas printed in October 1939, shortly after the beginning of WW2.
It includes not only maps, but an encyclopedia with descriptions and facts about the various countries and colonies, and even a short chapter on ethnology. Everything, of course, from the perspective of the National Socialist regime.
I will be posting maps and translating text according to your suggestions, just ask for specific countries, regions or topics.

Finland should be interesting

And what of Greece?

The preface is just pure gold:

"While the political map of the world had already changed a lot in 1938, this is even more true for 1939:

Theres not really an interesting description here, only statistics. Do you care about the demographical numbers?

7.5 million Serbs
3.5 million Croats
1.5 million Slovenes
0.5 million Germans
0.5 million Magyars

0.5 million Albanians

It is mentioned that German minorities exist in Voivodina ("Schwäbische Türkei, Batschka, Banat, settled in 18th century by Swabians") and in Slovenia ("Gottschee"), that most of the Yugoslavians are christian, with a sizable minority of "Mohammedans" in Bosnia and Macedonia, and that the different Regions of Yugoslavia are ethnically and culturally very distinct from each other.

Also, the largest cities are
"Belgrad (Beograd) 267 000 inhabitants

"Japan, officially Nippon, is an empire, the Cabinet holds executive power granted by the ruler. Right to vote restricted to men, bicameral system.
Capital: Tokyo (Edo) on the island of Hondo
Japan had been a feudal state until the mid-19th century and only became a constitutional monarchy in 1889. After adapting european institutions and technologies on a large scale over the last century, it rose to be the most influential Asian nation. Through wars with China and Russia, Japan conquered important territories overseas and became recognized as a major power internationally.
The goal of the Japanese government is further expansion on the East Asian continent to create new living space for its large population surplus."

user, these are amazing. What is the name of the atlas, would like to see it all for myself. It's really cool to see how other nations from other eras view their world

"With the Slovak declaration of independence on March 14th, 1939, the multinational state of Czecho-Slovakia, created artificially through the dictate of Versailles, finally collapsed.
Apart from the Carpatho-Ukraine, which was occupied by Hungary, only the old german cultural lands of Bohemia and Moravia-Silesia remained.
Recognizing the inability of this rump state to survive on its own, the Czech government placed its land and people under the protection of the Greater German Reich.
Because of this development, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was created on March 16th on the orders of the Führer as an sovereign territory under German governance."

CAME HERE TO POST THIS

PLS DO IT OP

UK and china pls

So I guess it's similar with Poland?

not a lot of interesting stuff though, the description is very short.

"Argentinia, officially Republica Argentina, Republic since 1816, constitution of 1853. Free elections, bicameral system.
Capital: Buenos Aires.
Compulsory service, 32 000 active troops. Navy: 43 ships. The flag is blue-white-blue. The national language is spanish, most of the population adheres to Roman Catholicism."

It mentions in the demographics table that the population is "almost exclusively of European descent", with around 200 000 Germans and 20-30 000 Indians.

Thank you

Godspeed op

MAGYARORSZÁG

Poland is mentioned as the "Territory of the former State of Versailles-Poland":

"Apart from the core land of the vistula basin, the polish state created in Versailles occupied large areas of the German empire, including parts of West Prussia, Posen and Silesia, as well as all of Galicia, large parts of White Ruthenia and Ukraine and the Vilna area.
Through the vistula corridor that seperated East Prussia from the Motherland the former Versailles-Poland had gained access to the Baltic Sea and constructed the artificial harbor of Gdingen just north of Danzig.
In September of 1939, this polish state created in Versailles collapsed. Instead of arbitrary division, the territory of the former Versailles-Poland will be shaped by clear conditions in the future, thanks to the German-Soviet border and frienship treaty that clearly established the interests of both nations.
The new border between the two countries will respect ethnic boundaries by ceding the regions populated mainly by Ukrainians and White Ruthenians to the Soviet Union."

Any description on Portugal?

"Hungary is a Kingdom. Free elections, bicameral system. Capital: Budapest.
Hunafry has been a kingdom since 1001, 1867-1918 as part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
After the World War, Hungary lost 68% of its territory and around 60% of its population. Through the treaties of Munich and Vienna, Hungary has regained the southern parts of Slovakia, settled mostly by Hungarians, and the Carpatho-Ukraine.
Because of its lack of a coastline, Hungary has been granted access to the harbor of Fiume by Italy and right of passage by Yugoslavia."

Argentina confirmed white.

Heh. I wonder what the 1941 version of this one is like.

...

China's description is the best one:

"Empire of China, officially Tschung-hua Min-kuo, is a republic since 1911. Free elections, unicameral system. In the treaty harbors the administration is partially in the hands of the foreign powers. Capital: Nanking.
Because of the war with Japan, the capital has been moved to Hankau and then to Tschunking. The Japanese created a sovereign provisional government in Peking to administer their occupied territories, which is due to be moved to Nanking this year."

"The conflict with Japan led to the independence of Manchuria (1932) and Jehol (1934) from the Chinese state. Japan is planning a reorganisation and revitalisation of China, where progress has been hindered for 100 years. While the economic pressure of the western powers is slowly receding, a new destructive element is threatening the nation in the form of communism. The reorganisation of China is a matter of life or death for the Japanese. Because of this, Japan is stationing troops in China as a defense against communism, while simultaneously supporting the country's economic growth."

Antarctica, please

alright fellow Veeky Forumstorians, I may have to call it a day now.
If this thread is still up when I am back from work tomorrow, I will continue to post and translate from this book, otherwise I will probably create a new thread some time in the next weeks to post translated excerpts from other historical books I own.

there is no dedicated map of Antarctica, but Neuschwabenland is marked on the world map, so this will have to do

Last one for today: romania!

I really want more of this

I recommend Iran or Iraq.

What do they say about Mexico?

When you get back, can we get Liechtenstein?

Literal nazi atlas describing Argentina as white

Why? It's just stating plain facts. Maybe they're offensive facts for some brainwashed by post-war allied atrocity propaganda, but back then these were the geopolitical realities.

Now this, this is advanced Wehrabooism

Bump

>Wodka-Gau

>98% of the population is protestant christian.
Like 10% of those actually believe though.

I'd love to hear what they have to say about Scandinavia in general and Sweden in particular. If there's something about the lapps/sami that would be great.

I wonder about 43 version

I know that Alaska wasn't an american state yet, but which one would be the other not-yet incorporated state?

Hawaii

Tell me about Latvia or Baltic States in general

Fucking Germs

>There is also a paragraph about demographics, which states that the population consists of "around 90% whites and 10% negroes, the rest consisting mostly of (American) Indians (350 000), Japanese (140 000) and Chinese (75 000)", and that also mentions that the US hosts the highest amount of "Jews by religion" in the world, 4,5 million.
>Mfw

can you do canada/australia? interested to see germanys view on the dominions.

>officially Éire
We should have kept this up.

In fairness there's people here who genuinely think the proper colour is gold, and not even in a "fuck prods" sense.

Why did they leave the Regia Marina off the description?

Even 1939?

I’m a little upset

I actually meant Hawaii and not Alaska. I actually thought that Alaska was made a state at roughly the time it was purchased but it seems that I was mistaken.

Australia pls

This. Post it, OP

>Japan is stationing troops in China as a defense against communism, while simultaneously supporting the country's economic growth."
Holy fuck I'm dying

no mentions of bosnians?

Please listen to Hitlers Stalingrad speech. A big chunk of it describes Hitlers economic plan to help the regions under nazi occupation. He also seems to have a bizarre fascination with bridges.
