Fatty here, I just joined a gym for first time after lurking for a bit, problem is, I'm way too weak to squat, even with an empty bar, is there something I can do? I don't want to give up so soon
Trainer tells me to not even bother learning to squat and just do machines, I just don't know what to do.
Are you sure your lack of strength is the problem and not mobility? I find it hard to believe someone who is not 70+ yo can't squat the bar.
Owen Nguyen
Try doing just bodyweight squats for now, or you could do goblet squats with dumbbells.
Chase Jones
If you're actually that weak, I would just recommend machines, and try to squat your own bodyweight as low as possible for a few months then try to squat the bar again.
Noah Long
Try box squats. If it's too much, try bodyweight box squats.
I'm assuming you're also logging everything you eat or drink and keeping your nutrition in check.
Chase Gomez
As much as I fucking hate it, the Smith machine is not bad for beginners learning how to squat. Get the fuck away from it as soon as you can, but for learning the basics, it's not horrible
Easton Sanders
Jeez brehs I want to coodle dem tittays
Hudson Ross
I can't even take the bar out of the rack without losing balance, but in truth, i have no idea about mobility
Matthew Morales
Goblet squats with a dumbbell.
Samuel Butler
>box squats >Goblet squats
Why no one told me about this, trainer just put me on a machine as the first thing. Shit i should have lurked more before joining.
Luis Harris
It's a realdoll
Charles Murphy
theres nothing wrong with beginners useing machines bro just use them the trainers right, stick with it buddy
Henry Hall
What trickery is this
Sebastian Martinez
you are so fucking dysfunctional its actually amazing
Ryder Taylor
Your trainer is an idiot. Stay the fuck away from machines.
Easton Barnes
Machines are fine OP even some of us that have been doing squats for years switch over to machines every now and again just to change things up and stimulate the muscle slightly diffrent. Machines are legit bro
Jaxson Wood
newfag
Christian Fisher
Machines are not ideal but honestly when you're a fatass diet is infinitely more important. Lifting is important but don't make it your focus especially if you're having difficulty with the basics. Ease into it, use machines if you have to, don't get hurt, but fix your fucking diet fatty fat fuck.
John Allen
I'll try to do as you say next time, I hope box squats and goblet squats help me too, thanks
Are you sure? I was reading SS an it says machines are not good at all
I'm sorry for my ignorance, I should have lurked more, I'm sorry for wasting your time replying to this thread.
Zachary Taylor
seriously if you cant squat the bar... Then idk if there is hope m8
Colton Wright
Work on your mobility. There's no reason why anyone can't squat 45 lb squat.
Dominic Martinez
fuck off retard
machines aren't good for the purposes of SS which involves compound exercises designed to work large muscle groups
machines can work well when the purpose is exercises designed to target specific muscles (ie isolation exercises), but that's not usually the way to go for beginners
William Ross
lose weight and do leg press until you can squat i guess
Angel Brooks
The thing with machines isn't that they're harmful, it's that compound free-weight lifts are waaaaaaay better in almost all aspects in healthy people. HEALTHY being the key word there. You're not, so ease into it. If you take on more than you can handle and hurt yourself I guarantee you're just going to get fatter in the long run. Focus on losing weight as your primary goal, not lifting big.
Evan Perry
Think of machines as training wheels im not saying stay on them forever but ur body has been dormant for a long time. If you jump stright in to complex comound movments with out any muscle, ur body will strugle and ur form will be poor. Use the machines and work ur way out of them. Start learning the compound exercises that the machines are assisting you to do. Don't overthink it to much the most important part is just gettting in to the gym and looking at your diet. Don't stress over doing the perfect routines or learning all the perfect form for everything trust me buddy you will need all the will power for your diet.
Hunter King
You're probably right, these 190 pounds are what's killing me, I should have tried a diet before, that and my mobility, like this other user said
I thought SS was the way to go no matter how big you were, fuck I feel like I retard, trainer is probably just worried I'll hurt myself, that's why he puts me on machines.
thank you, really
Nathan Fisher
The machines are designed for you. They are to assist in complex compound movments that people can not or do not know how to perform correctly. In short they are for beginners to learn the basics.
Isaac Walker
Losing weight (by fixing your diet) will help too. When I started, for example, I couldn't do a single chin up or full bodyweight dip. I lost 45 pounds and now I can do multiple sets of each, simply because I no longer have what basically amounted to a plate attached to me.
Jace Turner
damn son, who is this?
Chase Barnes
Trainers usually put people on machines because it's a lot easier for them, less teaching you form and lower risk of you fucking your shit up. Honestly, you don't need a trainer if you do your research and practice your form to complete lifts properly. However, if it helps motivate you then stick with the trainer.
Aaron Foster
its a real doll (sex doll) user
Joshua Davis
You are completely right, I'm going to re-read the sticky and do my own research, I was wrong thinking this would be easy.
Still, should thank everyone who tried to help me, I'm a complete retard, today was just my first day at the gym.
Matthew Long
Don't be so hard on yourself man. You keep putting yourself down and it isn't healthy. The fact that you signed up and walked into a gym is a GIANT first step. You will lose the weight and get strong, just be patient and focus.
Whatever you do, never give up. I stopped lifting for 4 years and it caused a lot of regret.
Luke Rivera
arai yomi i would not bother, she doesn't look good aside for a few pics
Samuel Walker
The gym can be intimidating if you never learned when you were younger. Weight training should be mandatory curriculum in school.
Carson Collins
Why is her skin freakishly flawless? Makeup?
Hunter Carter
so first off, you should obviously be more focused on diet and burning calories in any way you can...
you can't sqaut right now, so just do leg presses instead, it actually is useful since you can go way closer to your working limit, do drop sets until you can't fucking push anymore, which will of course burn more calories than say doing 5x5 squats for 90% 1RM
you will et stronger and at the same time lighter
as soon as you can switch to squats since for being strong machines suck ass
Angel Thompson
Cum, or photoshop, whatever you like better
Matthew Collins
post body
Anthony Nelson
>Fatty here, I just joined a gym for first time after lurking for a bit, problem is, I'm way too weak to squat,
why are you lifting you fucking idiot?
YOU'RE A FAT FUCK, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO LOSE WEIGHT
GET YOUR ASS ON A TREADMILL AND DONT COME BACK UNTIL YOU'RE 20% BODY FAT AT MOST, BETTER YET 10%
fucking millenials always taking the easiest path
Easton Morales
No way, you can't be serious. How can flesh and blood women even hope to compete?
William Clark
Are you male or female?
Nathan Taylor
I don't think a girl would post pics of others girls user.
Sebastian Torres
is there a source that gif bro
Michael Campbell
who is this blowjob barista?
Gavin Diaz
Well, they can speak and think, so that helps. Waifus/sex toys can only go so far. Personal connections with other humans are extremely satisfying.
Tyler Wright
Go for it OP we got ur back and we are here if u need us
Isaac Sanders
I really like this advice, I'll try this tomorrow for sure, I truly appreciate the time you took to respond, thank you
Michael King
>fat fuck doing leg presses instead of jogging becase Veeky Forums says so
not gonna make it
Jonathan Young
idd, thats why I hate those fat lazy retarded millenial cunts
always taking the path of least resistance
Grayson Green
literally squat without the bar first then
if you cant squat open air then put hand on somthing to stabilize
once you master that do open air, then broomhandle, then empty bar, then 2.5 each side ... etc ....
Cameron Davis
But I do I jog for 20 or 25 minutes everyday, I actually got a lot of horrible loose skin for all the fat I lost, I thought lifting would make them less bad, that's why I joined a gym in first place.
I was being retarded and thought it would be easy, I had never squatted until now, but yeah, you're right, I must learn to squat first
Carson Young
sounds like you got this bro if you're as new as you say you probably have a weak as fuck core and can't stand for shit don't neglect the other lifts(dl,OHP,Bench) strengthen that core mate keep at it mate, motivation to start discipline to finish
Do roman chair sit-ups. They'll help build up your hamstrings, glutes, and lower back. You don't train your quads with them so you'll have to do leg press for that
Tyler Watson
Are you educated on how to squat? I find it hard to believe no matter how fat you are you can't squat a 45 found bar
