You can see that he takes his breath (not counting the pressure breathing here) at an almost halfway down position, I've found that to be the most comfortable position you're in an "open" enough position to fully inflate your diaphragm, but close enough to setup that you can get your air, setup quickly and pull, without holding your breath for a needlessly long time.
