The Russians lost that war fast due to not having enough manpower to spare since they were fighting the Poles. At first it was the intervention of a few Polish nobles in the Russian civil war where one of them was supported by the Bolyars to become the Tsar of Russia. He was supposed to also convert to Orthodoxy. However Sigismund III wanted entire Russia for himself in order to destroy Orthodoxy(it was a crusade in all but name)
