Jesus did say to pay your taxes to dismiss people who were trying to find him at fault, and reminded them also and more importantly to render unto God, what was God's. He said to feed and cloth the poor, but he never outlines some economic system whereby food is redistributed to the poor, he told his followers that they ought to be doing that. He also said his kingdom wasn't of this world: he wasn't a social reformer, he was there to save men's souls. He wasn't a leftist. He wasn't a materialist. He didn't hate the material world, as much as Gnostic will have you believe: he made that, but he made more and we should strive be part of that higher life he intended for us.
