>must've been there all day watching tons of gear on low boys go in country
>get a scare (ISIS was supposedly around) and we all get tense and stressed
>nothing happens, we go back to Buehring and hang out in the DFAC and USO
>get word that all that gear got to an Iraqi division and they lost it all to ISIS within the week
>tons of vehicles, weapons and gear, an entire division up and deserted
>mfw ISIS has MRAPS, .50 cals, artillery pieces etc thanks to us
>mfw have to provide over watch security again for even more gear being to sent to the Iraqis a week later

Such is war in the 21st Century. No super-duper high-tech robot soldiers, no recording airstrikes on my iPhone, no hunting Mr. bin Laden in the caves of Afghanistan. Just me, sitting in the barracks, fantasizing about being a PTSD-afflicted post war Eugene Sledge and married to Anne Frank. Anne would comfort me after I woke up crying from a nightmare of having to lie dead still while Jap patrols walked right by me by telling me about how she had to do the same while the SS searched the room below her, all while the tears welled up in her eyes, being assaulted by horrible memories of her own. She would then strip off her nightgown, straddle me with her ready to pop belly rubbing into my, and we would fuck like crazy while sobbing like lost children.

I have weird fantasies.

On a side note, this is what I'm gonna be telling my grandkids:

Was in US Army Reserves for 8 years. Did a stint in Afghanistan in 2006. Didn't see any combat myself, but did patch some guys up in a combat support hospital

Being in Afghanistan and seeing the man behind the curtain on the Oz that is our government made me start believing in Conspiracy theories.

I was an AFN journalist, and the amount of times I had to change a story, or straight up lie was very disturbing. That and seeing how we do in fact guard poppy fields, and the direst correlation with the heroin epidemic.
