white wasn't a racial classification before the discovery of the americas. although it was adopted by the english, it was orientally invented by the spanish, but i don't think anyone would argue that they are white except by comparison to the native americans which was the comparison they were making when they came up with the term. there was no swedish colony in america that anlgos were trying to immigrate to for swedes to be in the position to consider them non-white. it doesn't help that swedes are generally slightly more tan than the english either. but if you want to think of swedes as white now then go ahead. meanings of words change and i don't think you would find many people who disagree with you nowadays.
