Firstly, they did not accept it, the offspring was famously mass shipped back to the US for adoption because of how badly they were treated in Germany.
Secondly, the German civilian population was literally starving to death and the US soldiers of all colors had a fuckton of supplies to bargain with.
It is not that complicated to figure out the situation here.
