>self improve general
>aka weird autistic kids in their early 20's general fascinated with trying to '''improve''' themselves by reading a variety of shitty books

Collection of short stories, but pretty good

The Alchemist is also pretty damn good if are into the idea of destiny vs free will

>let's say something against people who want to improve themselves

pretty pathetic my friend.

I've been reading some philosphy recently to get those ethical gains. Started with plato's the republic and I am slowly reading through the wisdom of the Greeks.

It's pretty much a known fact that most succesful people read a lot of books, especially biographys and self-improvement books

It's about collective learning, meaning that you learn from your own life and then by proxy through others, since you really can't learn everything by yourself.

So I agree that if you read these books hoping they give you some magic answers to your lifes problems, you are doing it wrong

>Successful people shit while squatting ontop of the toilet every day
>Surely if I do this I too will be successful

vs shitposting on a Peruvian poplocking network, seems like a better use of my time?

lol

I read because I understand the value in it, not because other people do it.

I just gave you a tangible fact that even you could understand, since you came to this thread to complain

Leaving Veeky Forums, developing interesting and meaningful hobbies, finishing college, beginning a successful career, furthering a successful career, developing relationships with other people, developing and maintaining an adult romantic relationship.

Nah senpai, keep reading Wishing, Want It, Do It or the garbage that is modern philosophy. Bonus points if you read classical philosophy and pretend your woke.

Check out the channel School of Life on youtube, they've helped me more recently than anything else has. They put emotions into perspective very well.

read herman hesse shiddartha
as well as demian

very similar, possibly better

You'll soon realise how preachy and subjective their videos are. A good place to start perhaps, but that's all.

If you can filter out the bullshit and do some research, those /sig/ threads can be a gold mine over the time with pretty great information from time to time.

The Art of War

plenty of non-combat great life advice as well as combat tactics k

i'd say you could learn at least one thing from every single book you read, and reading is a better hobby than playing video games or watching tv.

Very outdated book.
Things that Carnegie did then are common sense now. if you are not a total sperglord that is

listening to this right now. it's not a self help book but more of a well written summary of current research on why people are happy and how they become unhappy. even so, a lot of conculsions are made, and implementing them helps you keep feels at bay

>Things that Carnegie did then are common sense now.

eh, i think it's other way around. most people are extremely egocentric these days.

>Paul Coelho

Read up on stoicism in general and then listen to episode 67 of the history of philosophy without any gaps podcast. It's a good overview that touches on some major themes in his work.

Having a background of plato and aristotle is always helpful, so if you havent read them I'd recommend it, or at least watch some youtube videos or listen to some podcasts to get a general feel of what they're about.

The meditations were basically journal/diary entries from aurelius while on his military campaigns, particularly closer to the end of his life. he's just writing down all the shit he learned throughout his life and addresses common philosophical questions and his interpretationand/or application of them.

I never see this book posted in threads like this one. This is the book that got me into lifting (without event mentioning fitness) and helped me realize many things about the world and to feel better about myself and other people in general. Don't expect the world but I definitely would regret it if I haven't read this book

forgot the pic

Hi Rust

I hate these threads because it's only book suggestions. People are reading and not applying what they learn.

I don't want to hear about what book you read, I want to know what your ACTUALLY doing. Are you forcing yourself to talk to people? Did you start meditating? Are you learning a new language? Are you practicing your public speaking skills?

Stop circlejerking about books already

This

What's that book that costs 20k and is about peak athletic performance?

Frank Yang is all you need

I am actually talking to people more. I did start meditating and meditated for 8 months everyday for 15 mins. Stopped in between because of a death in the family. I improved my body language by miles and my voice is also stronger now.
read the charisma myth, no more mr nice guy and models by mark manson. charisma myth is VERY applicable- it takes care of the outer you what you show to others and hence how they perceive you to be charismatic. the other 2 books change your mentality from a negative thinking faggot to has self-confidence and true self-esteem.

Since I posted criticism, I might as well tell you guys what I'm doing.

Trying to improve creativity by forcing myself to write one short story a day

Trying to get out of comfort zone by actually approaching women. Still autistic enough that convo isn't all smooth, but it's getting better.

Started brushing teeth with baking soda and using white strips from time to time. Teeth are noticing whiter from start.

...

Cannot confirm this because it's not true. Remember the story with the maid? Nobody would ever do that so gently and well thought. Also doge is our spirit animal. If you don't believe me then you haven't read the book.

>brushing your teeth with baking soda

are you a fucking idiot, user?

Blame stupid internet moms and their dumb diy recipes
People use baking soda for everything from washing their hair to whitening their teeth

I'll throw in my 2 centz when it comes to approaching women

Get good at reading body language and eye contact. You'll be able to save yourself a lot of trouble just by knowing who you've got a shot with and people who just aren't attracted to you no matter what you say or do.

For conversations I have found lots of success with situational/observational openers and "threading"/staying on opening topic.

And for what it's worth I've seen more men get shot down by women just by opening their mouth. If I had to guess they come off like an annoying sales man and they're not interested in anything they have to offer. Nothing you say or do is going to turn someone on who just isn't attracted to you nor will you become attracted to an obese woman no matter how much money she will drop on you. So this ties back in with get good at reading body language and eye contact.

you dont take books like these at the whole and live religiously by them. you take out the bits that work best for you.

reading someone else's advice and realizing its shitty advice is just as valuable as reading good advice.

not true

since its just a bunch of books in here..

i have dune burning a hole on my shelf, is it worth the long read?

Asceticism is so passé, user

Amazing book, highly recommend

>eye contact
How to get good? I've only started working on my eye contact recently after avoiding it all my life, and it's strange.
Like I maintain eye contact when I talk to someone, and they do it back no problem, and I'm just thinking "what the hell we were supposed to do this all along?"

>no carbs
I seriously hope you don't mean this
>PUA
most of it is trash however I've learned a few helpful little tricks
>no music

any tony robbins books. eric thomas videos/books.

Guys i just found this youtube channel, the dudes name is "elisha long"
He lifts ans reads its so great, and its a tiny channel so he responds to questions

Total sig, only problem is he ketos

Music is a waste of time, only used by people addicted to constant stimulation

I got charsima myth back when I got into audiobooks. cant remember a thing, might have to listen to it from the beginning

Everything is a waste of time .

Music is a distraction.

lol read it again. worth it.

>addicted to constant stimulation
so literally everybody?

there are books on this subject and probably plenty of websites and articles out there

Practice by looking in a mirror and try communicating different signals with your eyes and facial expression. It doesn't have to be outrageous... people tend to pick up on very slight queues (such as a smirk or when you squint your eyes)

I personally like holding eye contact to see what type of feedback/expression they will respond back to me with. A great way to create an intimate feeling... it's as if everything else melts away in the world when you lock eyes with someone and the two of you become lost in each other's eyes.

You can play around with this by smiling at people, nodding, winking, rolling your eyes

Princess Diane had excellent body language and eye contact. Notice how she lowers her head slightly while looking up? There is a lot to be said with what she is communicating here...

Welp I better stop breathing air because I'm becoming addicted to that for my own survival. How selfish of me!

whenever i make "eye contact" i tend to focus on one eye. is this noticeable?

i've started focusing on their unibrow area instead.

...

I'm not entirely sure about that desu but I do know that when your eyes start bouncing around a lot from left to right or up and down they tend to pick up on that very fast

> How to win friends and influence people. Fell for the meme

This is on my nightstand as we speak and is next on my to read list.

Don't listen to these assholes, user. You're fucking based. It is much harder for us today to get rid of distractions and cheap stimulation, but we have to in order to become mighty creators like our ancestors.

how is music "cheap stimulation?"

music is older than language itself. you're a fucking idiot

music is severely overrated

it's emotional masturbation

you're trying to make your opinion sound like a fact and following it up with nonsense that doesn't even qualify as pseudoscience.

higher evolved organisms naturally respond to beats and rhythm and music has been shown to increase productivity and creativity.

another interesting fact is that people with AUTISM generally don't listen to music.

Pretty sure autists are more interested in music than normies and Chads

YOU sit in your room alone and listen to ALTERNATIVE to increase your PRODUCTIVITY while CHAD goes out and PRODUCES semen all over Stacy's FACE

no, you

They guy you're answering to is not me.
Leonardo da Vinci didn't need earbuds to create masterpieces. The fact we need music to increase productivity shows how sheltered and weak we are in this day and age.

i read it as his personal philosophies, mottos, thoughts on life, all of which were influenced by the stoicism branch of philosophy. It's worth reading since, and even marcus mentions this, he was someone who put his responsibilities first that also loved philosophy and incorporated it into his daily life.

your post doesn't make any sense and you're a fucking retard.

kys

I just started reading it and was just about to recommend it here because of how accessible it feels, considering I know nothing about philosophy. It's a newish translation by Gregory Hays (2002) with a fairly substantial introduction that helps you get the basics of the period, the man, the philosophy and of the work itself. Maybe that introduction is what helped it become accessible, I don't know, but you could give it a shot.

You are seriously fucking brain damaged my friend

It's not my fault that I'm too erudite for you to undestand. Fuck off.

>He thinks music is a modern invention

Oh boy

I seriously hope you're not a day older than 16, cause if you are, I'm serious, there's been something incredibly wrong with your development

...

No I didn't say that, but when someone of the past wanted to listen to music, they had to actually travel to a cultural place where a whole team of people was involved in producing it. They didn't have it ready on command as we do now

whatever you say, da vinci.

just know that if you say shit like this in public, you are basically telling everybody within ear shot that you are a complete ignoramus.

I don't care what you think of me based on a few posts, buddy

They also didn't have food ready to be cooked in their kitchens any time they wanted
Are you gonna get rid of your fridge?

and that makes it worse why?

holy shit just fucking hang yourself already

That's good then, cause nothing good ia coming to mind
I'm picturing you as that unpleasant weirdo no one wants to be near

Sounds like you are an autistic basement dweller
Half of this list is completely retarded and only antisocial NEETs would consider doing
Just go outside and get a life

Boy oh boy so many ass-hurts I've triggered today. I guess you wouldn't take it very well if I said the degenerate video games are for little kids and watching porn has very negative effects on your endophin stimuli. We do not live in a natural habitat, in the 21st century more than ever, and we must understand what made our ancestors great and how they build the almost utopian safe enviroment which is all we know today.

Children, all of you.
It's a very cheap stimulation that many of us now cannot function without, we cannot get concentrated or motivated by ourselves.
Of course not. But that doesn't mean I'm not aware of how easy our lives are, to the point of decadence.
Whatever I'd write to you, saying that I'm quite the opposite, you wouldn't believe me anyway, would you? So why waste the time

you are actually one of the dumbest "smarties" i've ever seen.

what you really need is a proper education in a classroom environment where people can see you, and call you, on your stupidity, so that you can grow and actually learn from it. the fact that you are anonymous makes you comfortable with yourself but in real life scenarios i truly hope you are too embarrassed or introverted to spew the bullshit that you do on here. fucking hell you are such a retard

>inb4 it was all a troll

Not at all I don't really play vidya unless I'm with friends and I don't watch pornography but I still think your "hurr durr music is bad" is just absolutely retarded
Mind you I don't even listen to music everyday either

>It's a very cheap stimulation that many of us now cannot function without, we cannot get concentrated or motivated by ourselves.

says who? you are grossly exaggerating the average person's dependence on music.

again, kys

I really really wouldn't
At best you could be that guy people socialize with out of politeness
