OP's pic looks like he's just seen a Parthian

>According to Plutarch, a final mockery was made ridiculing the memory of Crassus, by dressing up a Roman prisoner, Caius Paccianus, who resembled him in appearance, in women's clothing, calling him "Crassus" and "Imperator", and leading him in a spectacular show of a final, mock "triumphal procession", putting to ridiculous use the traditional symbols of Roman triumph and authority

Marcus Licinius Crassus is way cooler a name than
who-lee-us kai-zer

What would you do if you had arrows hitting you from all sides?

Taken the 40,000 Armenians with cav and the safe passage.

He deployed into this formation before he even came into contact with them.

That said, I would have deployed in a wide line, with maybe a couple of reserves in the back (in case a thin wide line baits a cavalry charge). Cavalry at the flanks.

But honestly the biggest mistake he made was engaging without gathering any sort of intel first. Just marching his troops into the desert.

Wasn't skilled enough to square off with the Parthians.

Yeah that was before he got himself in a fucked position. Wonder why he decided not to take the deal.

Do think that a thin line would be effective againsnt horse archers kiting you like that? It's hard to deal with an army that out ranges you.

Retrospect is 20/20 as they say and I
Don't think that a hollow square is really the worst options considering that he anticipated the archers to spend their arrows within the hour. Enduring a volley of arrows for such a time was best done in a square formation. Chariots replenishing the horse archers ammo was unprecedented at the time.

You are right about no getting into that position to begin with. Could be blinked down to arrogance.

>See his head on a spear
>Realize you can't win and your greed
>Parthians want peace
>Decide to save face and go to negotiate
>At least I'm still rich, and my son died like a TRVE Roman
>Bittersweet memories as you meet the Parthians
>Parthian teen grabs my horse's reign so I can step down as sign of friendship
>My butterbar Greek-learned Lieutenant tries to show off
>I should have bought a better officer because lol dead now.

>Could be linked down to arrogance
