I bought my site from someone on Veeky Forums actually. I think you really need to do proper due diligence on the site/app/business you are buying especially if you are not using a broker or buying from somewhere like Flippa. You can find great diamonds in the rough, but the opportunities are few and far between. You need to ensure that traffic, earnings, revenue/profit, etc are all legitimate and not artificially inflated or in a seasonal pump.
However if you can find a good deal and structure it well, it is absolutely worth it. Web properties are great long term holds and they usually retain great value. Plus, they make for great exits as they naturally accrue value over time as domains and articles age.
have you tried this yourself? if not you should try it out first and report back
