As far as I'm aware, the Bible doesn't really condemn slavery. Happy to be corrected, though.

No it actually teaches protocol for interaction between master and servant.

The King James Bible does not condemn slavery, and at first reading endorses the practice. The KJB was translated from Greek sources, and in most cases the word 'servant' is a mis-translation and should have been 'slave'.

Christianity actually glorifies slavery. Not only is the Old Testament full of heroic slave owners and even rules on how to deal with a slave, but even New Testament teaches you need to become a SLAVE of God. Later translations change it to just "servant" or some shit to sound cute but the original Greek word Doulos means a slave.

Baptist Christianity explicitly allows slavery, in a similar manner to how Catholicism allows indentured servitude.

Same way the Greeks talked about freedom and dignity and the virtues of man while banging their boy-slaves
Cicero wrote that under natural law every man is equal but under civil law there are slaves and there are masters and slaves basically don't even exist on paper except as movable property

Was Cicero, dare I say it, /ourguy/?

Christianity nor the Bible are against slavery per se. I say this as a Christian. Christianity is not a political party and is not concerned with realizing an ideal economic system. Abolitionism was a secular political movement and manmade tradition that masqueraded in the garb of Christian religion. Once emancipation was assured the denominations that had invested everything in abolitionism either withered and died or else moved on to the next cause celebre and then the next one after that and the next one after that and are the liberal "churches" of today that deny the existence of God and denigrate Biblical morality in favor of the beauty of cutting little boys' dicks off or whatever the new hotness is. I hope modern Americans feel morally superior to past ages now that you've exported all your slavery needs to China. It must be very comforting to never have to see your slaves and you get to feel all smug about how progressive you are and how much you know better than the Bible now that slavery is extinct while everything you own was literally manufactured by slaves.

How did the Ottomans reconcile slavery with their Muslim faith?

They just enslaved non-Muslims, or if they wanted to enslave other Muslims, they called them "servants" or some fucking euphemism. They were like lawyers, finding dozens of tiny loopholes.

Didn't Church ban gladiator fights? I always thought they were force against slavery in europe

Gladiator fights were banned because they were barbaric, not because of their connection to slavery.

by being Christians, they are the biggest hypocrites in history

As someone already said, the bible expressly condones slavery by setting out rules for it. Jesus also tells slaves to obey their masters.

You mean communists, right?

The same way they reconcile eating shellfish, wearing mixed fabrics, letting men with groin injuries into the church, not banging your brother's widow if he dies, not stoning women who lost their virginity outside of marriage, not stoning disobedient children, wearing a rounded hairstyle, or cooking lamb in a milk based marinade.

By being massive, cherry picking hypocrites about which bible verses they feel like harping on and which bible verses they feel like ignoring. Just like all Christians do, all the time

All of these were scrapped when Jesus fulfilled covenant. This isn't some retconning, this was firmly established in the early church. On the other hand church tradition as a opposition against slavery was firmly established and while sometimes tolerated in practice, something like chattel slavery would never fly in Europe.

Easily.

>all shit that only jews need to follow/were explicitly discarded in the NT which you haven't read cuz you're a brainlet

read a book nigger

why not both?

so why do Christians cite the OT when condemning homosexuality?

They don't really do that outside of American south.

If only Christians were that sincere about it

Because they're as retarded and you and they can't be assed to read to substantiate their identity. The modern man's attention span is busted.

Welcome to chile

same way good modern "christian" americans justify divorce

Good post.

They literally made their own fringe religion that said slavery was okay, then made a new fringe of the fringe when even the main fringe started being not too hot on slavery. It was hilarious.

>I hope modern Americans feel morally superior to past ages now that you've exported all your slavery needs to China.
t. has never met a working class Chinese person. They're the biggest shills on Earth for trade and free markets.

>hurr durr these things in OT were changed why u still follow this part of OT that wasn't changed

>exported all your slavery needs to China.
China's working conditions are poor compared to western countries but it's an unfair comparison. Instead look at how China is moving from an agricultural society to a modern one. Western countries had horrible conditions during industrialization too. Sweatshops also get overplayed as bad because they are compared to western countries. Most the Chinese in them are moving up.

"Slave of Jesus" is a common name (first and last) among some peoples.
