Somebody else would have conquered them. Main reason Balkans are so easy to conquer is because there are so many peoples there that hate each other, same 500 years ago, same today. It really depends on what would have happened to Byzantium which was by extension the biggest buffer against the Turks. Imo the Serbs and Bulgars could not have o
lasted long because theirs were not organised like Byzantium was, that is like an empire, but were feudal kingdoms.

It is a big misconception that Byzantium lost to the Turks, that only happened in Manzikert but the komnenian restoration and the 1st crusade reversed things militarily. After 1204 the Palaiologos had to fight Bulgarians, Venetians, the Latin Empire, the Latin Greek duchies, the Anjou monarchs of sicily and Hungary. Even if lets say for some reason Varna and Nicopolis were successful, by then it was too late, because the question would remain what would replace Byzantium and have the same staying regional power, that could hold the Greek balkans and anatolia at the same time. Coupled with the fact that Orthodox and Catholic relations were at their lowest point in history.

Fucking retard, the modern situation in the peninsula has nothing in common with the Byzantine governed medieval empire. And it wasn't "piss easy" to conquer them considering Byzantium was in constant war for 1000 years.
