No it's not it's pretty much what Constantine did and while Catholics don't consider him immoral Protestants on the other hand are more apt to do so.
I don't see salvation as necessarily being implied to be a long process like Buddhist enlightenment rather the sacraments require continual administration for the duration of one's life on the earth as a Christian. The rest is dependent on the individual, their sincerity, and their faith.
