My own mother got pregnant after 40 (catholic and didn't believe in contraception), and my sister born of that pregnancy has no defects.

Most of the health concerns of older pregnancies are actually for the mother. She's at a higher risk of gestational diabetes, pre ecclampsia, high blood preasure etc.
They also do early tests for down's syndrome so you can choose to terminate the pregnancy should you not want to keep a mong baby.
