How many sets and reps? I read 1x5 on here but that seems too few

That depends on what the rest of your programming looks like,training age, goals.
5x5 @100% for max strength
4x8 @90% for hypertrophy
do them however you want.
10x10 is good
Find your 1RM
Take 15% off and do 1x5
It will feel e-fucking-nough
The general line of reasoning is that if you can do more than 1x5 you're not doing enough weight.
(after a few warm-up sets of course.)

In my current program I do 5x5, 5x3 or 5x1 depending on the workout, but in the last set I try to do at least nearly as many reps as I can.
