What's the opinion on standard VS sumo stance? I think I might start doing sumo as I have real problems bending my knees past a certain point if my feet are shoulder width apart, I need them to be much wider for the balance.

You might have to spend some time doing high reps at very low weighs until your body can tolerate challenging percentages.
Start with sets of 10-15 with barely more than the bar if you have to.
