What history books have you been reading? Russia had no formal obligation to assist or defend Servia. The only reason Russia intervened was because they believed the Balkans were under their sphere of influence because of their slavic fraternity.

Britain's main foreign policy goal was historically to prevent a single power from dominating Europe, and in 1914 Germany was the threat to them. If the war were a decade later they probably would have allied with Germany instead (since by then Russia would be the main threat with an extra decade of industrialization)

This isn't anywhere close to what the Central Powers actually planned to do with Europe. Germany was never going to annex all of France even if they wanted to, for instance. Based on what Germany, Austria, and Turkey actually planned the peace terms would have been:

EUROPE:
>Germany annexes Luxembourg and takes Belgium as a vassal state. Gerrmany also annexes slivers of French border territory with coal deposits and Belgium is ceded parts of northeastern France
>Austria takes Montenegro, Serbia, and Albania as vassal states and annexes small border regions along the Romanian border for a better defensive line
>Bulgaria annexes the territory it desired before the Second Balkan War from Serbia, Greece, and Romania
> Germany sets up Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine as vassal states while annexing modern-day Latvia/Estonia as the United Baltic Duchy, under the control of the local German elite, and annex Crimea to colonize/for a Black Sea naval base
>Finland becomes independent
>Ottomans get back the Dodecanese
>Ottomans annex Kars and set up modern-day Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan as vassal states

AFRICA/MIDDLE EAST:

Honestly Austria could have gotten away with its invasion of Serbia if it wasn't for Germany. Russia hadn't even declared war on Austria yet, Nicholas being a massive pussy and not having any formal alliance with Serbia I wouldn't be surprised if he just chickened out once his mobilization didn't stop Austria.

The bongs were ravenous for war with Germany, as Germany's GDP was surpassing their's. They just needed to ensure that both France and Russia went first, which Perfidious Albion successfully arranged, and then they entered at their leisure.

That's a really good question. There was no factual need to get involved. The treaty didn't force Britain to enter the war. But they had been preparing for that war for ten years, the time had come to get rid of that competitor.
You had a cabal of bloodthirsty wankers at the top then.
