If Russia had been allowed to march on Constantinople in the 1850s, I have no doubt in my mind that the then unstable, nearly bankrupt, impoverished and weak Ottoman Empire would've collapsed then and there. It was basically living on borrowed time after that point.
But I guess that's why the West intervened, they didn't want Russia getting too powerful.
