Scandinavians are naturally very altruistic and empathic due to millenia of living in a harsh climate that favors cooperation over competition. That's not to say that there's been a lack of violence or competition in the region, but there needs to be an understanding that survival in Scandinavia means surviving the winter, not necessarily competing over the best pastures and farmland. In other words they are (as history has shown) just as capable of violence as anyone else but they are also have a stronger innate good side that can easily be nurtured into a person that is compassionate and shares freely.

The largest contributing factor to Sweden's current problem is that the political views of the elite are incredibly one-sided. Educated people tend to be more liberal in general but Sweden is quite an extreme case. University professors, journalists, teachers and other highly influential people are extremely liberal and have more or less monopolized Sweden's media and education - it is easy for them to not only promote their own views but to discredit and shame the views of others. You ask why the average Swede (at least the ones brought to attention online) is so self-loathing, so accepting of immigration and so on.
How can they not be? They are raised in a system that is entirely rigged against them; their pre-school teachers share the same agenda with their elementary school teachers who vote for the same parties of their highschool teachers who follow the curriculum written by overwhelmingly liberal and marxist people; the majority of all the media also broadcast the same message. Since they learn how to walk, talk and interact with their peers they are relentlessly bombarded with the same propaganda and there is simply no alternative - what other voices there are to be heard are discredited by all established authorities, they are extremist, hateful right-wing loonies who go against everything Swedish children have been taught all their lives.

Sweden made a pretty sudden move towards being a first-world nation, and all of this growth was quite closely associated with the growth of the socialist social-democratic party, which came to be associated with the nations international prestige. Despite not being a communist nation a lot of people have a kind of loyalty towards them that would not seem out of place in China and the Soviet Union. It has "infiltrated every institution" according to one famous analysis. It's relatively very stigmatized here to be upper-class.
Another thing people describe is Scandinavians having concepts of "face" that are reminiscent of east-Asian societies, though people misunderstand, the people don't have this shame when it comes to being say professionally competent, but when it comes to being morally good and socially nice.

My grandfather was Swedish. Died when I was 12, but he came to America because he started working on ships when he 15. He lived back and forth between Sweden, ships and America for 10 years or so, but ended up marrying a girl this side of the sea and stayed.

He was, as we'd now call it, pretty 'red pilled'. He was a Democrat voter, but on the more conservative side of that spectrum. He always talked about Sweden with that mix of homesickness and critical thought you get when you're a long time away from home. I think he could already see what it was becoming and I recall him making gripes about it, although I was too young then to really know much specifically.

And he died before Sweden became quite the politically absurd place it is today. I have three uncles, and the two oldest can speak Swedish and visit every few years to see old relatives. Getting them to talk about Sweden today really triggers them.

And when I think about Sweden today, it's always so jarring. I am sure my grandfather would be horrified at what modern Sweden has become. As a kid, I was always proud to point out my name was Swedish, but today I just keep quiet about it.

I honestly believe it's because we didn't fight in WW2. Pretty much every country in Europe was in it, which gives the a real boost to nationalism. Instead after the war while everyone else is celebrating what their country did(regardless how little) in the war, while we didn't have any of that lost kind of the real patriotism.
