Seems a bit weird to have a sentence where you equate both Napoleon and Hitler winning as equally good, when Hitler was a hardcore racialist and wanted to wipe out the Jews and basically any group he didn't like, whereas Napoleon gave equal rights to Jews and protected the rights and freedoms of every group in France. Like... which do you prefer, cause you can't have both.

Look up “The Drowned Baby Timeline” an excellent alt-history by Johnny Pez, (Veeky Forums won’t let me post a link for some reason?) which was originally posted to the Usenet newsgroup soc.history.what-if back in 2001.

Another very good alt-history is S.M.Stirling’s “Nantucket” series, which I'm surprised hasn't been snapped up by some tv network, seeing as alt-history has become popular.

I initially thought this was going to be some take on Camelot becoming a twisted hellscape involving JFK ditching Jackie O for Marolyn Monroe; their decadence and hedonism leads the USA dangerously close to Nuclear War that is only averted by the crushing incompetence and oppressive bureaucracy of the Soviet Union.

I was thoroughly disappointed when I realized it was just Johnny Pez advertising his own works.

Also the first three books of his “Emberverse” series but I didn’t care for the following books, as it becomes clear he’s just milking the story for the shekels.

Wow, how hard is it to read a couple of pages to get the gist of something?

This is shitty. Crediting Hitler with Germany's military success in Poland is retarded. Rohm would have done the same kind of buildup and probably would have avoided war altogether.

“The Sky People” by Stirling was also good but the follow-on novel, “In The Courts Of The Crimson Kings”, while a very interesting setting, was kinda flat.

I've been working on an alt-history out of boredom since 2008. I've established profiles for every country 1991-Present (some much farther back) down to guinea-bissau and benin

The earliest point of diversion is the Algerian Putsch by French nationalists succeeds, ultimately creating a French colonial entity for several years until it falls. Some 200,000 indoctrinated and unwanted French settlers move to madagascar instead of metropolitan France and create a "rival" right wing french government.

Also, in China Mao's wife succeeds him as de facto ruler instead of Deng Xiaoping, keeping China a North Korea-tier isolationist backwards state and eliminating a lot of western outsourcing.

Lastly, in the 1991 august coup the extremists of the soviet regime succeed in overthrowing Gorbachev. The USSR endures under Gennady Yanayev (albeit rife with chechen-style sectarian wars and run by the army/KGB) as a weakened rump state.

The biggest bullshit (and the most unrealistic) is shortly after in 1991 Russian nationalists angry at the coup hijack a Soviet SSBN and blow up Boston before they're sunk. The resulting political/humanitarian fallout causes the US to become a quasi-fascist oligarchy under William Buckley Jr. that rapidly militarizes and launches wars into neighboring countries.

Serbia wins the balkan wars due to no NATO involvement and heavy soviet support, creating a "greater serbia" that is basically yugoslavia's successor state included a satellite regime in tiny partitioned croatia

Also Germany/UK becomes fascist and japan becomes imperialist and Turkey under Erdogan becomes an Islamic Republic because why fucking not.

Another good alt-history from s.h.w-i is Dave Knudson’s “USA 2002 in 1942 ISOT”, in which the U.S. of 2002 is teleported back to 1942 but Google Groups Usenet archive is shit, so you probably won’t be able to find all the chapters.

A fantastic alt-history that everybody ought to read, is Kim Stanley Robinson’s “Years of Rice & Salt”.
