No Shave November & Movember

I’m sure you guys have heard of #nofapnovember, right? Instead, or maybe as well, I would ask that you consider participating in No Shave November/Movember this year
>What is this?
No Shave November & Movember are movements that involve putting down your razor for a month and letting your facial hair grow out
>Why do people do this?
The original goal was to promote awareness of men’s health, a topic that is often ignored by the public. You grow out your beard/mustache and then when people ask what's wrong with your face, you can talk to them about it. It's great jumping off point and hopefully we can help promote general interest and awareness regarding this. Originally the movement was focused on prostate cancer and other men's health issues, now it means different things to different people. If talking about men's health specifically makes you uncomfortable, you can check this link out for a non-gendered interpretation
no-shave.org
>What health issues affect men specifically?
The simplest way to sum up the problem is to state that in many countries more time and money is spent on maintaining women’s health and researching different diseases that specifically affect them than vice versa. Despite this, women tend to live longer than men and have better quality of life at the end of their lives. I was hoping that we could talk about this stuff and share resources to educate ourselves on these issues. l’ll provide a few basic examples; statistically these things are all more likely to kill men than women
>Heart Disease
>Cancer
>Diabetes
>Pneumonia & Flu
>Liver Disease
There are also a few things that tend to affect men’s life expectancy, health, and quality of life more so than women besides specific diseases. I’ll provide a few examples of these too, though I ask that when discussing these that you stay on topic and be respectful to avoid provoking the mods
>Suicide
>Accidental Deaths
>Homicide
>Homelessness
>Male Genital Mutilation
>Mental Health Issues

cringe

It is a little bit cringey that the life expectancy difference is 4.8 years in the US, 3.6 years in the UK, 3.9 years in Canada, and also 3.9 years in Australia. Isn't it? Does any of that concern you at all?

>You grow out your beard/mustache
>people ask what's wrong with your face
kek'd

The men/ husbands want to die earlier

>shaving
>not showing off your glorious masculine beard all year long

Oh, there are plenty of people who do that, and that's awesome. Though this is a chance for those of us who prefer not to have one year round to let it grow out a bit and for a good cause as well.

See, you say that as a joke, but that's a serious topic as well. Men are far more likley to kill themselves than women are, and often times people get really skittish when you bring up the topic of suicide.

I had a friend who offed himself a little while ago, March 16th of this year actually. I totally respect the fact that it was his choice and I try not to begrudge him for it, but it's still really upsetting. One of the reasons it bothers me is because I had discussed the topic of suicide with him before, in that sort of off handed way that friends do. You know?

I think to myself sometimes that maybe if I had paid more attention or had been more aware of this shit I could have talked to him about it in more detail and maybe he would still be here. I don't know, maybe at the very least I would have better understood why he decided to do it and maybe that would have made it easier for everyone involved, him included.

It's a real problem. As I said before, I'm fine with people doing it if that's what they really want to do, but if at all possible I would like to prevent people from wanting to do it in the first place. Last time I checked, most people don't off themselves because they are bored. Most of the time they do it either because they are suffering and legitimatley don't want to live anymore or because they think they've done something unforgivable and deserve to die. I don't want anyone to have to go through that sort of mental anguish if it's at all preventable.

It's a raw fucking deal, it starts with one person's suffering, then it ends with everyone else suffering when they realize someone they cared about hated living enough to fucking alt+f4 themselves.

Already on it senpai.

I'm 23 and I have the facial hair of the average 16 year old.
I'll shave, thank you.

I just shaved. Also no I haven't heard of no fap november.

Talking about beards.

If i i only have small amount of hair for a week if i let it grow out for like 3 months will it actually add up or will it stay the same?

Just make sure after No Shave November you leave the stache for Dirty December

The point is to start a discussion, not to look good. I'm going to look like a fucking caveman, that's not going to stop me.

There are a lot of people who talk about nofap on Veeky Forums if you haven't noticed. There's a thread up about it as well, if you search the catalog for it you can find it pretty easily.

Anyway, it doesn't matter if you just shaved. You can still start now if you want. Just don't shave for the rest of the month.

It depends on your genetics and other factors, really. Some people grow hair incredibly quickly, some people grow it very slowly. Some people's facial hair will effectively stop growing once it reaches a certain point, slowing down to a crawl. Some people's facial hair never stops, and even though it slows down after a certain point the decrease isn't noticeable.

Hell, some people can't even grow facial hair.

Really the only way to know is to just let it grow, though for most people the growth is faster at first then slows down over time. If you're curious as to how it is for you personally, it's the perfect time to see it in action and to make a difference at the same time.

I will look like a fucking Allahu Ackbar if i don't shave for a month.

BUT IT'S FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

So what, this planet is too crowded anyway.

>haven't shaved for 3 weeks
>don't know if I wanna keep it or not
>remember this gay shit

Off it goes

Because I want to cover up my perfect jaw and chin with some numale/fatass/nerd affectation.

>wanting to live longer
lol fucking faggot

>big nose
>thin lips
>permanently half shut stoner eyes
>forehead wrinkles
But my jawline is the only redeeming feature on my ugly face.

this

makes me feel like a hipster who just wants to be different, but the thought of someone walking up to me to talk about "Hey bro! Doing NO SHAVE too? XD which beard oil are you using?" makes it not worth it

I have a beard for the first time in two years and I wasn't aware of this, I think I'll shave it off. I hate this gimmick, fuck America.

>implying i can grow anything other than a weak mustache and some pubic hair chin scruff with a hint of sideburns

Such as?

I want to genocide non whites and you think you're gonna come here on my board and chide on about men's health, suicide, and other cuck garbage?

Do you think anyone cares? Please leave and never come back

>Male Genital Mutilation

What

it's called circumcision

I will do nofap and movember OP, thanks for reminding me

it's you who doesn't belong here, gb2 /pol/ with your facist shit

Oh God you faggots are still crying about that?

movember is bullshit
nothing but black metal november gets boring
nofap november does nothing for because i already only fap like thrice a month

why is everything in november anyway

>Remember this gay shit
>Shave right away
Thanks for the reminder bro

Because it starts with the word "No"

Intricate pasta, m'lord.

No shave November? The last time i thought that was cool I was 16

Oh look. A men's rights activist.

Go back to tumblr.

Yeah by non whites

Hahaha yeah people killing themselves is so beta cuck hahahaha I clearly have lots of self security calling out people concerned about the well being and lives of others hahahaha I'm so fucking great look at me guys

so last year?

Don't worry op, I support you.

...

It's called Movember, and it's more than growing out the strands of hair you call a beard

yes goyim, circumcision is bullshit

Overall, I'm surprised that many of you are against it. Most lurkers on here do have some serious psychological issue considering this site was made for chinese cartoons and have been overrun by traps.

>inb4 nothing wrong with traps

Homosexuality, and being a faggot overall is a disease. Deal with it.

I've actually participated on an official Movember team for the last few years. We registered on the website, held fundraisers, the whole nine. It was kind of fun, plus it's nice to feel like I'm contributing to prostate cancer research, and knowing it isn't a gigantic fabricated industry like pink for breast cancer.
My grandpa died of prostate cancer, probably because he was diddled at a Catholic orphanage as a child, but possibly due to genetics. I don't want to die from that, and I don't want my dad or brother to die from it either.

Fuck off with your men's rights bullshit

Again, I would request that you reconsider, but it's totally your right if you don't want to participate and I can respect that. Personally I know I'm gonna look like shit, but that's not gonna stop me.

Actually, this started in Australia funnily enough. So if you want to give the finger to anyone, then you should give it to the shitposters.

Danke, it took a while to get it within the character limit while keeping it as tone neutral as possible.

Great post mate.

>implying either conservatives or liberals give a shit about men or their health and safety

Kek son. The one thing nobody gives an fuck about is men. Every other group has significant public and legal support except for men. Not shaving isn't going to change shit.

>tried this last year
>looked like a serial rapist with my patchy mustache
>literally (l i t e r a l l y) zero beard hair growth after a week
>gave up a week in

>being this much of a fag

Lol fugg off back to yahoo answers

Thats because men are the evolutionary sacrificial lamb.

The whole reason our sex exists is to massacre each other mercilessly until the last man standing can pass on his ubermench genes to a thousand sons, and then the process repeats among his children

>inb4appeal2naturefallacy

Now I have to go shave.
Thanks.

mfw I can finally grow facial hair so I won't look like a faggot for having zero facial hair when people do this

(((you)))

im with u, op! i just shaved my beard, leaving only the mustache. kinda like it this way. is it acceptable to keep the stache at the start of the month? at least when keeping rule 4 in mind

I shaved my 2 months old beard last night just to start over for No Shave November.

Gonna bookmark this thread and keep checking it, let it grow fellas.

allah

>yes goyim, circumcision is bullshit

It makes the penis lower-maintenance and more aesthetic

You could make that argument and I won't even bother to debate those points besides saying any maintenance that having a foreskin causes as compared to not having one is negligible and the aesthetic argument is down to personal tastes.

The issue at hand is that is effectively an unnecessary cosmetic surgery that is performed on infants without consent. Virtually all arguments that it is beneficial to an infant's or adult's health and well-being ignoring instances where the tissue is malformed, which is the exception and not the rule, have been disproven by science and recent studies. Not only that, it is often detrimental, as the foreskin serves many important purposes and the surgery itself is prone to complications, especially when infants are involved.

I used to be on your side of the argument, since then I've shifted to the other side. I'm fine with adults doing it if that's what they so chose, but it's inhumane to do it to children who aren't even a week old and to date I've heard no legitimate reason to preform the procedure on infants that hasn't been disproven.

If you want me to go into detail on some of the specific functions that the foreskin has, or how removing it can be detrimental, or to debunk some of the commonly held misconceptions surrounding the organ, then I can. Otherwise I'll just leave this here.

>more aesthetic

only because it's what you're used to

I'm sure Muslims think clipped vaginas look better too bud

It's essentially true

I wish we could all be more honest about our ongoing societal biases, it's just that we're pretending that women are something they're not right now while still giving men the shaft at the same time

I shaved yesterday, my next shave will be on Dec 1st. Let's see how the meme goes

>tfw you're /nofap+noporn+noshave/

Nobody actually does it to raise awareness for cancer... it's just an excuse to grow your beard out

Stay classy fit. Bunch of fucking kids.

>people have a beard, then shave it for a holiday that no one gives a shit about
holy fuck how retarded can you get

test

>tfw this is the extent of "beard" that my ugly crooked face can grow

Does anyone know where there's a gas chamber I can go?

cool story, now eat your tendies and finish your runescape game before bed

Ed is that u?

>growing a beard to solve serious problems

Or you could actually do something about it if you actually gave a shit instead of just lazily allowing something to grow on your face. Literally the worst way to raise "awareness" Ive ever heard of

I respect your struggle

>reading comprehension the post
Where did anybody say anything about a holiday?

That's kind of the point. It's a casual sort of thing that pretty much anyone can get involved in without much effort. Obviously if you want to really raise awareness then there are much better ways to do it, however that's something that I don't expect most people to be intrested in. You could speak about this sort of stuff in public channels and actively advocate and lobby for legislation to be passed on these issues, but not only does that sort of stuff take a lot of time and money.

Not only that, but seriously talking about this sort of stuff in the public sphere can absolutley ruin your reputation. That terrifies a lot of people, myself included. This is one way that people who want to try to make a difference and try to help without upending their whole lives to do so can try.

That being said, if you have better ideas for simple things that regular people can do to raise awareness about these issues, then please let me know. I would love to hear any suggestions you might have.

I can't stand not shaving for longer than 2 days

that's not a situation that will occur.

Pretty surprised this topic came up here. I'm doing the Nazerite Challenge.

>men: work whole life, often going through stressful times
>women: sit at home and watch tv, pick up kids from soccer practice occasionally
thought those expectancy differences would be high desu

>Nazerite
>KIKE

>glorious masculine beard
>because no glorious masculine jaw

i shaved this morning because i have a good looking jaw

why is this thread so hostile?

Because le epic bearded nu-males get triggered easily.

>Veeky Forums full of beta males who can't handle a bit of shit talk every now and then.
kys

>if only I had grown out my beard, my friend wouldn't be dead
Yeah! Movember rules! XD

I already have a beard and theres no way I'm shaving this shit. I look like a 14yo girl without it.

To what are you referring to as hostile. The lads that are memeing me for trying to seriously discuss this topic, or the lads getting defensive that I'm being memed?

I'm 20 And still can't grow a beard

Are you 20yo woman perhaps?
Yes or no, you're pretty. Show us your butt.
Not sure, never checked

pls be my gf

Oh what the hell, why arent spoilertags working in Veeky Forums?

No, not really. It's not a statistic that you can read that much into. Women and men are very different physically, and you have to look at the cause of death to be able to get anything meaningful out of it. The main source of the difference is cardiological disease, as a result largely of hormone differences. Not something you want to do anything about.
The difference in suicide however, is a very meaningful statistic and a great point of discussion. I'm sorry about your friend.

Yearly reminder that Movember is for obnoxious nu-males that like to follow instead of lead.

Fucking betas

full beard and moustache year round
come at me plebs

you use the language of a PR person, trying to be friendly but authoritative, trying to sound like one of those 'cool' teachers at school who consider themselves your friend.

promoting mens health is a worthy cause, but the movember and this years no shave is a bit sad. it is just another way for folks to virtue signal and try to appear cool. it is just the latest form on slacktivism.

if people are raising money for charity them fair enough and good for them, but the vast, vast majority will just post fb updates about it.

i can't be unshaven for 30 days because i have a serious job, and i'd be forced to tell those who work for me that they have to shave too if they tried this. it might be appropriate in some fields, but it won't fly in mine. i'm not trying to sound all la-de-da, but it's a fact that this won't work for a lot of people.

Because spoilers never worked in Veeky Forums. Protip, if you don't see the checkbox for spoiling an image at the bottom of the reply menu, then you can't use spoilers on that board.
Though they're still fun to use ironically to mess with people.
Regardless of the physical differences between men and women, the fact of the matter remains that women do live significantly longer and often times healthier lives and women's health research receives significantly more funding than men's health research. This includes funding for women's heart disease, as well as cancer research. Keep in mind that much like heart disease, men are both far more likley to develop cancer than women and far more likley to be killed by it.

Perhaps you're right and there's absolutely nothing that can be done about it. Maybe men are biologically doomed to live shorter lives and have a lower overall quality of life as they reach the end of their lifespan and there's absolutley nothing we can do to rectify that problem. However, even if that may be true I firmly beleive that we should at the very least try to find a solution to the problem, and allocating more money to the prolong longer lived sex's lifespan while ignoring the plight of the shorter lived sex seems incredibly counter intuitive and completley illogical from a purely egalitarian mindset.

I just want everybody to make it, senpai. I just want to be able to look back someday before I die and be able to unironically say that we're all going to make it and really mean it for once in my life. I don't think I'm asking for much in that regard, I really don't, though for whatever reason there are a lot of people who seem to think I'm a faggot for doing so vocally.

Maybe everyone just thinks that it's all just one big stupid meme, but if that's the case then I'm damn well gonna force it till it sticks or die trying.

That's just how I talk when I'm trying to be serious diffuse tension. This is one of those topics that people end up getting into big autistic flame wars about for stupid reasons, and I'm hoping to prevent that and trying to promote a real discussion about the topic. You know, because when the mod's see some big autistic flame war going on, they just start passing out bans like candy and delete posts like it's going out of style. I really don't want that to happen.

I figured out a long time ago that if I take the time to explain myself and use the proper vernacular to do so, then people will just call me a faggot for caring instead of calling everyone else faggots and making a big stink about it. So I'll take that thing about sounding like some PR shill as a compliment, though I prefer to think of it as benevolent baiting. I am become bait, destroyer of drama and master of ignoring pointless (you)s

As for the slactivism part, it happen and frankly ok with that. Honestly I don't really give much of a fuck as to whether or not some people just see this as a way to earn cool points on myface and twitbook. I'm just betting, hoping without hope really, that one or two people see it and seriously try to get involved and make a difference, even if it's only a little difference. If even one person does that and helps someone else down the line, even if they just end up looking into it and only end up helping themselves, then mission fucking accomplished. That would make it all worth it for me.

You know how it is. Sometimes people want to be heroes, but most people have a lot of trouble doing big shit and then they get discouraged and end up doing nothing. Instead of letting them get discouraged about that and giving up, sometimes you can show them ways to do little shit. That way they can still be a hero, even if can't be the hero they want to be.
