How the hell did this guy lead a crusade as an 85-year-old blind man?

How the hell did this guy lead a crusade as an 85-year-old blind man?

Did they get his birth date wrong or what?

Based Doge was more badass than most people can hope to be.

His servants jostled him around on a litter and made sound effects to make him think they were on a Crusade.

They were just Gr**ks.

that's what it means to be a Great Man

If he's so great why did he do shit-all for about 80 years before actually committing "great ""deeds"".

he was just building up his power level training under a waterfall near Verona

He was the doge. Takes balls to be the Doge

He was probably fucking bitches and constantly dodging crossbow bolts and venomous snakes all day.

DO IT AGAIN

FALLO ANCORA, DADDY DANDOLO!

FALLO ANCORA DADDY DONDOLO!

He was a from a patrician trading family. He spent his more youthful years making tons of gold. He then acted as a government official and diplomat. He was a key player in the reorganization of the Serene Republic's governmental system after Doge Vitale II Michel's death by mob almost burned down the city. Even not considering his role in the 4th crusade, he was a critical person in the cementing of Venice as one of the most stable political entities in history

If Venice was so cool, why do they drive those gay little boats?

He was partially blind

source?

...

So what are the odds Dandolo was playing the long game and the Fourth Crusade was revenge against the Byzantines for his blinding?

The records taken indicate that the entirtyvofbthe fourth crusade was one mistake that just kept spiraling farther and farther. The man spent several years prior to the crusade re-establishing favorable relations with the Byzantines. The entire city if Venice put it's exonomy on hold to prepare an invasion fleet that was specifically outfitted for a landing in Egypt. There is no way that this was a long con. He probably took some pleasure in taking the city though

The real redpill is that dandolo was playing a blindman the whole time (“”””his eyes appeared totally normal”””) and he used it an an excuse to sate his appetite for byzantine gold

Plausible deniability, friend. Revenge is like cold cuts

The gondola was pretty much a limo boat. Until the 19th century interration of a good number of canals, they were pretty much the fastest and comfiest way to move about the city.
