1) is it true that Ledger has never been compromised, but trezor has?
2) is it true that, if your HW fails or is destroyed, you can simply reclaim your shit using a seed phrase?
3) is it true that you should only buy from the company itself, and not from resellers or online stores? 3.1) if so, where do you buy a Ledger Nano S for instance in Europe?
As for 3 it doesn’t matter even the official boxes from retailers don’t even come sealed as they are so confident that they are tamper proof and can’t be reverse engineered. Any sort of tampering will instantly brick the device so you should feel confident even buying a second hand ledger and using it
Jayden Smith
>3.1) if so, where do you buy a Ledger Nano S for instance in Europe?
If you google 'Ledger Nano' it's literally the first result.
Connor Cox
I bought mine off the ark store as it’s the only place that didn’t have 6 months fucking wait time and able to pay with bitcoin.
Has a little ark logo engraved but apart from that just a normal ledger
Brandon Smith
LMAO!
Bentley Baker
i received my ledger nano and cryptosteel tonight and im pretty happy so far, i'd def recommend
Josiah Green
So it really doesn't matter where you get it from, right?
Im still on the fence about the cryptosteel I already have a Ledger nano S
Dylan Bennett

1) yes 2) yes 3) yes
some will tell you the seller doesn't matter because the Ledger Nano S is supposed to have an authenticator built into the firmware that would alert you if it has been tampered with, but IF it's ever compromised it will be through hacked firmware, so I'd be extremely cautious about buying from anywhere other than the official company store.
Also the official company store will sometimes give long wait times (1-2 months) but I think that's just a "worst case" scenario, because I bought one a few months back, said it would be like 45 days, and instead I had it in about 10 days much to my surprise.

its nice to have the reassurance that no matter how much you fuck up, as long as you have a piece of stainless steel - youll be all good.
Isaac Morris
1. Yes. 2. Yes. 3. For the truly paranoid, yes, I'd buy straight from the company. Why not? If you're going to store large amounts of crypto, be as safe as possible.
Landon Baker
> can I use my seed to recover the wallet.
Yes. Like with ANY OTHER FUCKING OPTION OUT THERE WHERE YOU HOLD YOUR PRIVATE KEYS YOURSELF YOU GODDAMN SUMMERFAG
Kevin Roberts
I have both a Trezor and a Ledger Nano S. I like the Ledger better. The app system on the Ledger is annoying.
Adam Smith
trezor owner here
getting a ledger nano s and mooltipass soon
i know the trezor is enough but i got a hard on for gadgets
Joshua Cruz
Enjoy your ban
Robert Fisher
You would be able to tell instantly if it was hacked since it won't work with the ledger wallet app
Sebastian Wood
lol come on now, if that was the case half these coin shilling threads would be banned
now thatd be something
Lincoln Hughes
>hardware wallet
Adrian Hughes
But then you need an offline computer, right?
Christopher Green
props on your uber low tech, low cost, EMP proof hardware wallet but you gotta work on your penmanship my bruv
Hudson Ramirez
Right???
Wyatt Bailey
Whoa, looks like mine! I store mine in my drawer in my desk. Very secure.
Jaxson Morales
i had one of those cunts. worked so much better than a minidisc player. yeah yeah... inb4 you are an old cunt...I am
Caleb Fisher
BS. As long as you don't have a keylogger on your machine you are fine. You could always use a bootable OS on a USB or smth and stay offline if you are paranoid
Jaxson Gomez
>As long as you don't have a keylogger on your machine you are fine. Shouldn't you always assume you have a keylogger?
Josiah Wilson
your OS is a keylogger. ALL OF THEM
mindblown.gif
James Rivera
>your OS is a keylogger. Unironically, right?
So if you want to use a paper wallet, using an offline machine is absolutely necessary, correct?
Brandon Rogers
yes, youre right. people misunderstand what hardware wallets are for, they serve 2 purposes:
-- a completely isolated and secure way to generate a seed, or in ledger's case import a seed you generate yourself (with dice or whatever) -- a completely isolated way to view and spend your money from that seed, or any other seed you might have saved, like a mnemonic on a paper wallet
in ledger's case there isn't an equivalent to a hardware wallet because most computers don't have TPMs, and the ones that do are generally too complicated to trust, especially with intel's possible backchannels.
the point is, a hardware wallet is really only saving you from having to own and maintain a completely separate isolated computer for signing transactions, which you then scan with a QR code and send off on your phone or some other network connected/camera equipped machine.
and yeah trezor should be avoided, because its trivial to backdoor in transit, and you can't even open it up to see another chip has been added like you can the ledger.
Brayden Moore
idk mang, full disclosure i use a ledger doodad. it's pretty darn easy to use with windows and chrome
currently all the math nerds seem to have pretty big boners for it and i'm pretty anal about not letting anyone ever touch my PC and always using VPNs and safe browsing habits etc etc so i trust it for now
Adrian Smith
the hell kind of private key is that, its half the size of a normal one
Ryan Allen
How about relability of private key storage? It have way to export/import private keys on paper?
Jaxson Cruz
you can generate keys on the ledger, and make a paper backup like you should do. and you can directly import any mnemonic back on the device without it even connected to a computer. i dont think the trezor can do either of those things without being connected to a computer and using it in some way.
Luke Thompson
>you can directly import any mnemonic back on the device without it even connected to a computer. Posible to directly connect keyboard? youtube.com/watch?v=JO9eyPt0NQc
Colton Kelly
Get a keepkey.
Thomas Nguyen
no, it lets you select the words that make the mnemonic up with the buttons it has
i dont know what you're linking but you seem to have missed the point as to what these hardware wallets are solving. if $100 is too much then you don' need one in the first place.
Lincoln Russell
Deluded usb stick sellers
Ian Walker
THIS.
if you have $10k in crypto then you should probably invest $100 in a hardware wallet. if you have $50 in crypto you should probably not bother.
if you can't figure that out on your own then you should donate your crypto coins to me right before you KYS
