I was hoping to just start to learn a bit about peoples thinking buying stocks, maybe start investing a bit. I'm scared and not really sure where to start.
I have about 702,000 USD taxes paid.. I've been so busy working I've really neglected investing anything.
The Robinhood general is for stocks. The app itself is rather limited (pretty much only common stock), but people there use other platforms, so it's really more of a stock trading general.
Fyi it doesn't really start until 9 because of market time
Thank you.
I have to say I imagined there to be crypto-talk on here but damn this whole board is that. I thought there would be a general or something.
Seems like a really risky thing to be investing in unless you are doing it with very small amounts.
Unless you have millions to gamble with, 0.15% profit seems like nothing. That's why gold, oil and everything won't make you rich but rather keep you rich if you already are. Coins are a NEETs last hope
Most people here have no money and are just roleplaying. Keep that in mind.
>2017
>not getting into hyper volatile, ultra woke bogdanov approved god coins
WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE?
put it all in GE IBM INTC and any other "safe havens" that pay a nice dividend
live off the dividend income.
GE has an attractive 4% yield now, although it has underperformed since the crash, they are finally gonna turn things around soon
IBM is into blockchain now, buffet took a bath on it but thats old news
INTC is ridiculously undervalued assuming they are able to roll out i10 chips next year and regain the lead over AMD
I don't have millions, I have about 3/4 of a million. I'm almost 32 though so been working for a while. Seems like if I'd have invested in the stock market I'd have made more like +14%.
I won't invest all of it. I was thinking about just starting at like 5k to get my feet wet.
I could also give it to an investment group, but they charge like 3% commission every year whether they do good or bad.
Ah, yeah I figured there was a lot of that. Thank you.
Thanks. So I can just PayPal some money into Robinhood and start tinkering around?
To make a comfortable 10% without staring at charts all day and pulling my hair out every 5 minutes.

I dont use rh, but most on here do. I hear a lot of complaining about it...dont see why it wouldnt be sufficient though, especially if you just want to dip your toes in
btw, this is a great time to be prepared to start buying up blue chips on a discount. market at all time highs, no 100 point drop in dow in so long....Obama signed into law all these market regulations to prevent such "flash crashes"
Trump is working hard to undo all that, deregulate like its 2000
Yeah that's what I'm looking to do also.
I have ~700k taxes paid now. After taxes and expenses I'm able to put away, cash, about 35k per year. My plan was to start with just one years cash this year, test the waters and educate myself before doing more significant amounts.
I guess so. I focused on my career and working. I can live a pretty comfy life without ever investing at all. I just want to get started with some fairly safe stuff, even if it doesn't make as much. Diversify my money.
What are blue chips?
>What are blue chips?
Oh nevermind, Google was my friend. Thank you, that makes sense.
You should be posting on reddit then. Even the stock traders here are autistic meme lords who put their lfie savings on pink sheets
I post on reddit and here. Try to get as much info from wherever. Seems to be a lot of disinfo here comparitively...faggots want you to lose all your $$ and dont gaf when ya do
Good so stay on reddit then you fucking bitch
ok
Im leaving now, never coming back
bye
.....
I can enjoy reading about things and take a calculated small portfolio risk every so often and have fun with it. Just because I'm not an idiot who blows his whole cash reserve on some shitcoin or memestock doesn't mean I should be somewhere else. This board is amusing. I don't come here for business advice. I come here for entertainment and the occasional topic related discussion.
i swear i wont come here ever again
This was funny 10 years ago when we were all underaged idiots posting on /b/, but come on now. The secret clubhouse meme is really stale.
What are you a fucking kike?
Where do you go on Reddit?
r/trees
r/drugs
r/lesbians
and to a lesser extent,,,r/biotech_stocks
>taxes paid
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
enjoy your 5% annual gains faggot
to be this retarded....
Oh I meant more stock related. Thanks though. Pls be safe with the drugs.
I took every tax advantage I could, but, yeah I don't want to get locked up for tax evasion.
That's what I thought too, but turns out I missed out on about 14% gains from the last time I checked with an investment group. They came to me a few years ago and between then and now the gains have been 14%.
Do you mind telling us what your job is? You are pretty loaded, dude. Did you have any help?
> I want to invest in stocks
> asks/biz/ what blue chips are
I also came here looking for stock advice. Just leave and never come back. Veeky Forums is literally too stupid for stocks, it literally only understands yolo moon buy now lambo lambo. You'll see, the stock behaviour is the same is it is for coins. You wagecucked long enough and made enough cuck bucks op, I feel bad just seeing you here. If you want to drop a few grand max on yolo coins and shitpost memes then this is the place, but for actual investment advice I'd go to investopedia and try their sumulator game, and read The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. Or AT LEAST read Rich Dad Poor Dad and read stocks on reddit.
Ps. The main meme on this board right now is that "notanglers" are spreading "fud" (mean lies) about the most obvious moon mission (IOTA) because they all went in on a retarded ether token with zero research and threw all their savings at a meme, and now they post screaming wojaks to represent their inner pain
thanks im addicted to weed, it used to be a lot more fun than it is now
but lesbians really help me cope
enjoy your 0% gains
I'm an engineer in the marine industry now. I make about 135k per year, but I have some patented designs that I get royalties on which further supplements that. I've been saving for a while... In high school I ran a t-shirt business (basically advertising speciality, but I would go to conventions and sell stuff direct too) that made me ~50k by the time I was going to college. I got into college on a scholarship so I worked just to pay expenses but still ended up with a net positive end of the year (not much, but not a negative). I'm a loner so no friends or gf or anything so I don't really have much to spend my money on so a lot of it went into savings pretty fast. I live at home still at 31 and my dads house is paid for so there isn't really a mortgage or anything for me to pitch in with other than the regular stuff which we split it up so it is even.
So it's not so much I make a whole bunch of money as it is I don't spend very much. I don't know what to spend it on really.
Thank you for the advice and heads up! I screenshotted your post for those places to start.
I was also. I smoked form 15 until 25, then quit cold turkey. They say it's more psychological than physical, but, it was still a struggle for me. I had to smoke for my anxiety... Anyways, when I quit, I had some weird dreams, awful anxiety, and slept terrible but if you can stick it through I do feel better now. Good luck to you.
>recommending stocks to anyone worth
If I could I would trade my life for yours. I had friends and gfs growing up but partied a lot of my money away and never went to college. Now I'm close to your age and my net worth is only like 10K.
Feels pretty bad, man. :(
By marine industry... you mean... like... nautical?
I'm pretty miserable, but I'm realizing I'm getting myself in a pretty good situation. The upside of being /foreveralone/ I guess. I have coworkers that are strapped for cash, some make more than I do, but they have wives and kids and that stuff is extremely expensive.
Yeah, boat building.
I know you're being ironic but I suspect that you're actually intimidated by stocks because you don't think you's be able to understand. There's more to investing than retard "moon missions" and boring low yield bank stocks. Doubling your money in a year is pretty cool imo, and I've done it with way more safety than crypto (relatively very low safety for stocks)
I included reddit under "at least". It's not great but it is seriously better than Veeky Forums, except not as funny. I've been here for over 10 years but I go on other websites too you know.
Friends always drift away eventually, so do women, and they also cheat on you and make you feel like shit.
I wouldn't dwell on it.
I lived a pretty full life and now I'm alone as well. The difference is that I have only memories to show for it. You have substance.
I am on polish stock market (GPW).
In this year I managed to get ~32% upwards. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Would like to stay in contact with anyone that is acting on classic stock market.
Thanks user. I'm sorry you are struggling. I hope you feel better and get some substance too. Are you working now?
Yeah, it's just low level manual labor type shit, which is all I've ever done.
Thought about trying to go to college but it feels so late and I am scared to go into debt and not have the investment pay off. I know a lot of people my age with degrees who have shitty factory jobs like me and nothing to show for the expense of their education.
Depends on how much time you have on hand/ are willing to spent. To make good investing decisions you need to do some research and some numbers. If you are not willing to do that you either gamble or just buy some ETFs and make you some relatively safe but small gains
>you need to do some research and some numbers
Any suggestions where to start? Some good book recos, or some people to follow on youtube/twitter? I want to learn more about the economy and stocks but I just get lost , i'm more of an IT guy and I struggle understanding basic stock vocabulary
Thank you. I’ll probably start there. I’m trying to learn a foreign language now so after I get better at that i’ll switch to learning about the markets. Unfortunately only have time for one learning thing right now and for sure need to tread carefully getting into investing
Eventhough martin shkreli is a bit of a meme on this board, his investing series on youtube is legit and probably a good starting point on learning how to value stocks. There is a economics segment on khan academy and based on that you can read a bit of wikipedia.
I'm also subscribed to Benedict Evans Newsletter, which is tech based news, statistics and so on. If you're feeling fancy you can also have a economic calendar bookmarked for the most importent financial events.
Many investors have written books but I never bothered, because it's mostly just an autobiography
too bad he is in jail for potentially 20 years
Id look into opening a roth or regular IRA through someone like fidelity or vanguard and max it (~5k a year). The roth is where you get gains tax free for retirement. I like fidelity because they have fairly low commission, a nice mobile app and literal buildings so you can walk in and talk to someone instead of relying on internet customer service and online reading. Robinhood is nice if you just want to mess around and trade without commission.
The most basic shit you can buy is a sp500 tracker like SPY, VOO or whatever fidelitys version is. It follows the net of big 500 companies in the US so it is a relatively safer thing.
too high post quality for this board, please post link wojaks
Thank you very much! I'm saving this thread to read up on tonight. Appreciate the advice.
