Protestantism is mostly a setback and splintering of Christianity. And some of those splinters grew radical and destructive.

For Roman Catholics, never. I'd imagine the same for Orthodox and Oriental Churches. Protestants feel as though the only thing you need to do is "believe" so that's probably why they don't have any spiritual disciplines like fasting or meditation.
