I never understood Jonestown, they were a Christian-Juche cult? Why did they suicide like faggots instead of go down fighting?

Well they were a Socialist/Communist Commune above all else. they loved Jim Jones, he often claimed he was a prophet,and a healer. Most of popularity also come from the fact that he vehemently supported civil rights, and was one of the first fully integrated churches in the U.S. The people of Jonetown trusted him whole heatedly. so when he told them that the government was going to come and kill them and their children, unless they committed "revolutionary suicide" they did it. mind you that some ( a lot) saw past this facade and wanted to, and sometimes did leave. there was no actully threat but Jim hated people levign so much he threaten to shoot anyone who did so, and also he was in a constant drugged daze mixed with massive doses of paranoia caused him to go through with the act (that is just my opinion i hve no idea what he was thinking at the time, but that is the best guess)

Don't forget how he hired hitmen to kill the Congressman who visited Jonestown.

The bodies were so rotted by the time rescuers could get to them (dead people several layers deep in the hot humid jungle) that it was difficult to determine how many of them died from drinking voluntarily vs. being forcibly injected. There is no telling how many people voluntarily killed themselves.

That said, we know that Jones was very good at manipulation, and the group was incredibly isolated. Jones could say practically whatever he wanted, and there was nothing to counter his report of events back in the states, as they had no television, newspapers, and only had limited radio. He told his followers that the CIA and the FBI were after them because of their socialist message, and that if they were captured, the only way to further their message would be to kill themselves in a final act of defiance, to show the US as militant aggressors that squashed a peaceful commune of its own citizens for wrongthink.

Also, they had been isolated long before they even got to Guyana, often being pulled away from family and friends from the sheer workload involved in being in the church (charitable work, a real job, church events, and compulsory road trips between different Peoples Temple locations), or otherwise by being encouraged to leave family behind who didnt share in their newfound socialist ideals. One member even accused a member of her family (her father, iirc) of sexually molesting her in order to shame him and keep him away from her while she continued with the Peoples Temple. So, when presented with the suicide, they had very little to lose, as the only friends or family they had left were there in Guyana with them, ready to die as wll.

Basically, Christian fags were more Socialist fags who chose to be suicide fags because martyrdom and nothing left to lose + manipulative rhetoric and government fear

Were they hired hitmen? I thought they were just members of his armed guard.
