mercantalism directly lead to the fall of the first british empire. What you want is a protectionist (or 'mercantile') system of economic standards.

>first british empire

Well thats hopeful

>implying

mercantilism is good for states, not merchants

At the peak of the british empires power all the other powers were bawwing about free trading being most advantageous to the brits

industrialization policies*. and this was after the fall of the first. But they have that policy on steroids in today's world an when is the last time you heard the UK dominating the markets?

When your country is the result of thousands of years of mixing among warrior races such as Romans, Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Danes and Normans, it's only a matter of time before you start conquering other countries. Everyone said "how can such a tiny irrelevant country be a threat", they may say it now like in days of yore, but when the English wake up from this state of languish...God help all the nations of the world

>take over some spear chuckers when you have guns and other advanced technology
>WE WUZ WARRIORS N SHIET

>Defeat all the great powers of the world in the race for land grab
I get the feeling all you know of the British empire is this map

Proof?

>When your country is the result of thousands of years of mixing among warrior races such as Romans, Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Danes and Normans

the british empire was strong because of fucking boats. wood floating on water. stop larping about some dna test you took that makes you feel like a Germanic warrior

I'm English, you're a faggot

They get hegemony by controlling the seas. Since they live in an island, they only should care of having a strong navy.

Dont look for more

mercantilism is good for everyone except merchants

>mercantilism creates strongest empires on earth that dominate rest of the world
The United States is free market, user...

Free market was a fucking mistake, we introduced laws about protecting the enviroment, minimum wage, working conditions etc. and what fucking happened? The factory owners moved their factories to Asia and keep doing the things we outlawed here but there while we become spoiled soyboys, incapable of doing the hard labour required for the endless sea of materialistic garbage we consume. Who knows what will happen the day the asians no longer puts up with it.

I'm a bit confused, what exactly are you arguing for here?

Mercantilism

Honestly that would just put us at a huge disadvantage compared to other nations. Our GDP would go way down, our relations with other nations would be soured, and we'd lose a massive amount of influence abroad.

Don't you see? We will be forced to do it eventually, Asia and Africa are constantly aiming for our high living standards so eventually they won't be able to produce all our shit for us which means that we have to do it ourselves again

Right, but instead of embracing mercantilism we can just take away the regulations that made our economy uncompetitive in the first place. If we don't do that then someone else will, and they will profit and grow massively at our expense.

But then we have to lower our living standards even more

Which is the exact same thing that will happen under mercantilism.

Britain is fucking dead m8. Without even stepping into pol tier stuff, your government is weak, and having hegemony over the seas (you can't even control your local waters) is not as big a deal as it was when the sun never set on the British Empire

But under free trade we would have to lower it even more, as i said. The more you lower it, the more you are able to produce so lowering it just enough to be able to produce the stuff for ourselves would obviously be the most ideal option.

>he thinks the state represents the people

user, under mercantilism prices of goods go up, under free-market capitalism average wages go down, it's effectively the same thing but at least with free-market capitalism we still get to remain relevant on the world stage.

>Bongistan cant even conquer 1/16th of their home turf
Hurr we so superior

Of course you lower tech shitskins and take their territory.
