Because a large part of Shi'a teachings involve patience; a lot of the reason why they have survived to this day in otherwise unsurvivable situations is due to their belief in the Hidden Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, and his promise to restore justice and integrity to earth. Thus, you don't have the armchair conquerors and zealots who have plagued Sunnism. It is this belief, and their oppression for most of history by Sunnis, which has made them very amicable. Shame we screw them too sometimes.
