Why haven't you read this yet?
Why haven't you read this yet?
Don't really have any interest in american history honestly, is this a good read?

Oh hey that’s my birthday
>howard zinn
It's shit.
i have read it
It's not a real history book. About half of it is Zinn's personal opinions about the ruling class
Wow, a 95 year old on Veeky Forums.
Dandolo is that you?
And?
>drumpf
Zinn died in 2010 (Trump didn't become President until last year)
Garbage. He was doing it to make a point and not to write an accurate history book. The amount of hipsters who reference this nonsense in history conversations is fucking embarrassing.
>August 24th is my girlfriend's birthday
>it's also the day the CSS Alabama was commissioned in the Confederate Navy
>be columbus
>risk a death of scurvy exploring atlantic
>find land
>make friends with a local tribe
>note they are all battered and beaten
>learn their language
>they tell of another tribe that treats them like human garbage
>1 ship is wrecked and leave some crew behind with them
>sail around a bit
>meet this other tribe which greets you with a fuckton of arrows
>ok we're done here, sail home
>come back on 2nd voyage to trade manufactured goods for all the gold they have
>the crew you left behind have been slaughtered and the nice tribe has been scattered
>mfw
I have. It was terrible.
No, it's not really history. Zinn ascribes to the following reasoning.
>It is impossible to write truly objective history. Even with the absolute best of intentions, inevitably a writer will form a narrative, if in no other way by including what he or she thinks is important and not including what he or she thinks is irrelevant.
>Since it is impossible to write with 100% objectivity, you shouldn't bother trying, and instead just inform your readers up-front what you are doing and what you think your biases are.
He's more of a columnist, or a demagogue than a historian, and it shows.

white american bad tier history book
not in the least bit interested in that tired and lazy trope
>start reading
>fucking white people
>republicans REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Into the trash it went.
SHUT IT DOWN
I read it (listened to it on audiobook desu). I don't think it's terribly outright dishonest, but it obviously takes a single stance and presents history through a single, particularly limited lens. He falls into that same pitfall that so many lefties fall into of 'objectivity is a myth.' This is kind of like saying, 'I can never have the perfect body, so why should I go to the gym?' It's fucking retarded.
because I like to read history without the slave morality propaganda.
