I mean, Hitler clearly cared deeply about his country and its future. He was a definite romantic who believed in elevated humanity through shared ideals.
Problem is you need a bit of pragmatism when you're running an empire.
And it ain't exactly pragmatic to start a multi-front war, then forfeit concentration toward the war effort in stead of trying to devise ways to murder all the Jews.
