Marcus Tullius Cicero

>A man with nothing dedicates his life to a republic which spat in his face at every opportunity
>Stands against corruption, resists sloth and greed with the sheer power of his will
>Has his wife leave him, his home destroyed, his brother murdered,
>Betrayed and murdered in the defense of the Republic

Explain to me how this man was not the greatest Roman (protip: you can't)

You forget
>Chose to die with dignity

>>Cicero was one of the most viciously and doggedly hunted among the proscribed. He was viewed with sympathy by a large segment of the public and many people refused to report that they had seen him. He was caught December 7, 43 BC leaving his villa in Formiae in a litter going to the seaside where he hoped to embark on a ship destined for Macedonia. When his killers – Herennius (a centurion) and Popilius (a tribune) – arrived, Cicero's own slaves said they had not seen him, but he was given away by Philologus, a freedman of his brother Quintus Cicero.

>>Cicero's last words are said to have been, "There is nothing proper about what you are doing, soldier, but do try to kill me properly." He bowed to his captors, leaning his head out of the litter in a gladiatorial gesture to ease the task. By baring his neck and throat to the soldiers, he was indicating that he wouldn't resist. According to Plutarch, Herennius first slew him, then cut off his head.

Has there ever been a greater unlikable cunt like Marc Anthony?

There was also Cato

>Marries a literal child for her family's money, upon being called out for being a sick pedophile he jested "she may not be a woman, but she will be after tonight."
>Follows the virtues and traditions of the Republic only as it suits him, immediately does away with Roman law to quickly purge his enemies during the Catiline conspiracy
>Opposes land and class reform bills because he's a dirty rat protecting the corrupt Roman oligarchy that he is a part of
>Flees like a little bitch when Caesar turns up in Italy
>Becomes hated by optimates for bitching and complaining incessantly
>Not even part of the assassination of Caesar, immediately starts kissing ass after the killing.
>Tries turning Octavian against Antony. Fails.
>Gets killed by Antony's goons.

Yeah bravo. Decrepit old rat that manipulated the system whenever it would benefit him. However, it's doubtless that he was one of the greatest speakers of all time.

dude orgies and weed lmao!!

>>"she may not be a woman, but she will be after tonight."
Based

giant hypocrite, lawyer who helped guilty men escape justice, oppurtunist, coward

I unironically believe the things in that pic

>she may not be a woman, but she will be after tonight
/tv/'s superhero

Good

He was an Optimate, which means he didn't care about the poor.

>Divorces Publia after she herself claims that she's jealous of Tullia
>Implying the Catilinarians didn't deserve their deaths and otherwise would have wrecked civil war on the republic
>Implying Cicero wasn't deeply ashamed of his actions under the Palinode and did it only after being spited the 70th time by the Optimate oligarchs
>Implying M.A didn't think Cicero was the prime head of the assassination of Caesar

So this is the power of Nu-Rome

>Mounting a defense for decadent pedophilia that was morally dissolute even by the standards of the late Roman Republic
>Disparaging the Catilinarians for the possibility of a civil war than defending the guy who, with his buddies, starting the fucking civil war that rekt the republic
>Admitting that Cicero was a crybaby bitch with no foresight
>Implying Cicero's getting killed by Antony wasn't helped facilitated by the fact that Cicero would not stop fucking with him and doing his best to get him killed

Be gone, Republican scum.

Antony's hatred for Cicero started when he executed his stepfather, who was part of the
Catilinarian conspiracy.

Are you saying that Cicero should have been a beta boipucci to Antony even after Antony burned down his home?

>A man with nothing dedicates his life to a republic which spat in his face at every opportunity

Ugh.....what? Cierco had a pretty damn good life for most his existence, with a huge house with his own slaves, a family, and a profitable career as a lawyer, and a consulship. His life was the model of what a successful Roman life would look like.

I'm saying he probably shouldn't have immediately began scheming against him, making accusations implicating Antony in messing with Caesar's inheritance, delivering orations in which he lists reasons why Antony should be declared enemy of the fucking state, and grooming Octavian to destroy him. All of this backfired completely and Cicero's death is entirely his own fault.

He had slaves so he was obviously a shitlord

he looks like young michael palin

>Petty crime and legacy fraudulent

What is he talking about here in the first line ?

>stands against corruption
lmfao

He was a slimy weak crybaby only good at shit talking, he got what he deserved

>she may not be a woman, but she will be after tonight.
