The only empires that failed there were Britain and USSR. Alexander, Timurids, Mongols, various Indian empires, all conquered Afghanistan successfully. Brits were the ones who invented the graveyard of empires meme to soften the fact they got obliterated by a bunch of goatfuckers. The British army also struggled mightily against literal spearchucking Zulu niggers in southern Africa, so all in all that little adventure says more about the Brits and their martial capabilities than it does about Afghans.

Afghanistan's never been a graveyard of empires. The first Afghan dynasty literally only existed from the 18th century after the Safavid empire declined, before then there was never an 'Afghanistan'.
