It's usually used as a cutting tool just like any other carb depletion cycle. It isn't the best for long term performance, or an indefinite diet/lifestyle. Especially inefficient when it comes to bulking.
So it's good for short-term weight loss, like a month or 2? is it unhealthy / can it fuck with my hormones / insulin sensitivity?
If it's your first time trying keyto it will likely take you a week or so just to dial it in and actually get into a ketogenic state, after which it only makes sense to stay there for at least a few weeks to reap the benefits of it. So yeah, bare minimum a month. Two months is about as long as I would go, not so much because it would stop working but because life without carbs just fucking sucks. You can still drop just as much BF on any other diet so long as you're in an equal caloric defecit as you were in keto. Health/hormone wise it's fine, its just not an enjoyable life *for me*. I love carbs more than I love fatty meats and oils.

Actual strict ketogenic diets really aren't optimal for performance. Add some carbs in your morning meal and it is arguably as good of a diet as you can get performance wise without spending crazy money and time on meal/ prep.
