20 pull-ups is crazy. That'd be like top 10% of everyone who lifts

All my lifts were shit when I started lifting but I could do like 3 sets of 8 pullups on my first day in the gym.

That was at 135lbs though, so maybe not very impressive.

>how many pull ups do you think an average joe can do
Absolutely 0
You guys have a totally warped perspective of what the "average joe" is.
The average joe has never picked up a dumbbell in their lives.

Somewhat of an average joe, I do boxing and a fuck ton of cardio and outdoor activities, I can do 15 comfortable and 20 with some struggle.

>1-5 shit tier
>5-9 meh getting there
>10-14 not bad at all/average
>15-20 respectable
>20-25 damn good bro
>25-30 fuck you you fucking show off

3x8-10 weighted with 25lbs currently. Best so far was 29 and I was showing off for the fuck of it

>how many pull ups do you think an average joe can do
Average guy in his mid-20s probably can do 4-5
>what a respectable/good amount of pull ups is
Without weight? 10-15, good form, unless you're quite heavy
>how many you can do
3 sets of 6 reps weighted +25lbs

You don't know what average Joe means you fucking retarded piece of fucking shit.
How does boxing and a fuck ton of cardio and outdoor activities make you an average Joe? Seems you have an average Joe IQ. Idiot.

>0-5
>10+
>27 bodyweight. Sets of 12 with 25lbs added, 5-8 with 45lbs added.

8
20
3x8 ( I'm a 270lb fatass, pull up all day after I finish my cut)

I'm also an average joe. All I do for exercise is some pullups and a fuckton of rows. I can do 75 pound weighted chins for reps

We are just two average joes.
Faggot

Literally 2. I'm 100kg and I'm weak as fuck for some reason. I can lift dumbles but bodyweight is just hard a.f.
I can do a 100 pushups (sets of 20) but WHY THE FUCK CAN'T I DO PULLUPS FOR FUCK SAKE.

Same. I've been working out regularly for the last 6 months and I can do 1.5 pullups, I'm not as fat as you though (55kg). I want be able to do more but there's always that one fucking dude in the wife-beater who comes to the gym and does nothing but lat pulldowns the entire time.

Then again, 90% of gym goers arn't really at a "respectable" strength level.

> Average Joe, young guy, maybe 4. Less than that for guys over 30. Average young chick would be strong to get 1.
> Same age guy, a respectable number is double digits. 20+ actual good pullups are rarer than a 2/3/4/5 pl8 lifter and usually only come with a skinny specialist dude like USMC combat arms or similar. Gals, getting a handful is big big deal and I doubt many hormonally unaltered women get double digits.
> Rested and not doing them at the end of the workout, I can hit doubles, but if I am doing them after Deadlifts and other stuff, usually only 8-10 on the first set. I am over 50 years old.

Your average joe who doesn't work out can't do a single one. I know because I've been one for a long time.
>respectable 10 good 20
>15

Also pull ups >>> chin ups

Why is 20, its all conditioning. You practice pullups you'll get better at pullups.

Practice. I could do zero, after a year or two of lifting tried again and did 5 bw. Was amazed since didn't practice for them just occasionally lat pulldowns. Now doing 3x5 with 15kg added. My bw is 87. Can do 10 bw with ease. Didn't try to see my limit, probably around 15 bw.

For some reason i can do more pullups than chinups. Maybe because all i do is pullups. So chin ups seems weird to me. So do curls instead.

The average Joe would struggle to do 1 push-up, let alone a good-form pull up.

You people really overestimate what 'average' means.

So far, 6, but I kipped a little. Maybe 3 very strict ones.
I'm 225lbs though.

I can do 20 pull ups but Im also a scary skellington so I guess it doesnt really count

>I am over 50 years old.
Scooby, you are still lurking here?

From the average joe's I know: most can't even do one. Only the skelly people can do 1-3

I´m installing a bar to my backyard today.

When I had a bar at my home few years back I could do 15 in a row and also weighted pulls and chins.

2 years later I can do only single 1. I´m 15kg heavier though. But will start training for them again.

Last time I seriously trained for them I went from zero to 10 in less than a month. Just negatives and lots of weighted hanging

>I can do 100 push-ups
>sets of 20
That means you can do 20 push-ups you fucking retard.

Is this bait or are you retarded?

5 Weighted with 110lbs at 154lbs bodyweight

I can GUARANTEE you that people that post about doing dozens of pull-ups and hundreds of push-ups are doing them with a ridiculously bad form.

How has your training changed as you aged?

>Disculpe

Me again,

Tried to go max out (haven't done those 50 since 2016). Got 50 without a sweat, but then again all I do is bodyweight workouts so I'm acclimated.

>how many pull ups do you think an average joe can do
1
>what a respectable/good amount of pull ups is
There is no answer to this one. I've seen twink dudes weighting like 60-70kg rep out like 15 while my man EK weights like 120kg of pure fat and manages 8 with ease as if he just tried to scratch his back.
>how many you can do
5 with additional 17,5kg @92kg & 16 Bodyweight

IT IS ALL ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU WEIGHT PEOPLE

Average fat guy? Literally zero. I would know because I used to be one.
Average skeleton? Maybe 5.

hello, mister wizard. please give more knowledge
(o ^ o )

>tfw can't even do one
How do I better myself in that area?

Literally just practise pullups, dude. I literally did zero (0) even after two years of lifting because I never really tried them. Turns out after a few months I could do them with additional 10kg.

Do your negatives, dude.

yeah no girl who doesn't work out seriously or has an athletic beckground is gonna be able to do even one pullup

>how many pull ups do you think an average joe can do
zero because they're all average fuccbois

>>what a respectable/good amount of pull ups is
5

>>how many you can do
17 strict, I kip for the last 2 reps

>inb4 pics

I have been doing pull-ups since I was 13, force to by my coach, 21 now so you get the idea.

I'm textbook DYEL and I can knock out 20

This is the main reason why calisthenics are a poor judgement for strength. Its all just balancing acts.

>0-3
>10 would be ok. 20 Would be respectable.
>10-12

The average manlet should be able to do one with good form, maybe two
The average normal height person (>6') wouldn't do a single one with good form. Range of motion + weight + lack of muscles will screw them other

I'd say 8 pull ups is respectable for someone who's serious about lifting

I can do 4 to 5 excellent form pull ups. I can triple that number if I just wanna show off and do it with shit form to impress the normies who have no idea what good pull up form is.

No it isn't, it's just a different strength. The skinny guy who can do 30 pull ups is not weaker or stronger than the massive lifter who can bench 3pl8.

if the skinny guy can not bench 3plates he is objectively weaker than the lifter same goes for the pull up

>pull ups
>Average skeleton? Maybe 5.
Nigga what? I, as average skeleton, can do 1 chin up, let alone pull up...

What if the lifter only can pull 3 max?

Well yeah but those are different scales measuring different things. I meant as an overall "judgement", without differentiating.

lmao.

>the preschooler who reads 12 picture books is no more or less literate than the English grad student who is finishing his dissertation

That's a retarded metapher.

Nope it's smart.

But it works the same for the pull up Youd have to come up with an exercise that measures the pulling output independent from bodyweight..the guy which does an 90kg pull up is stronger than the guy who does a 65kg one even if he can do more reps

>e-boasting and confusing pull-ups with chin-ups, the thread

>0
>5-8 is good
>maybe 8 if I try hard (tfw not a twink)

metaphor*

No it's retarded and you are probably too. You are looking at it from your perspective, that the weight lifter "sacrifices" his ability to do certain calisthenic exercises to be able to lift more. It goes the other way too though.

But height/weight play a crucial factor. That's exactly what I am saying, one is stronger on a relative scale to his weight and the other is stronger on an absolute scale with weights. Both are strengths that can be trained and perfected and comparing is useless.

There's no difference unless you're those street-workout fuccbois

Yes there is. Almost everybody can do more chin ups than pull ups. I don't know if that's true for me since I only do the latter.

Same here, I can rep more pulls than chins, I seriously don't know why, maybe its genetics or the bar I'm using at is haunted or some shit.

>0
>Respectable amount would be around 7 or 8
>I can do 15 in one set.

Sure he may be relativley stronger but if we talk abou strength usually absoulte strength is meant i. E being able to squat more then the other guy talking about relativ strength is useless an ant is relativley stronger than it still does not move anywhere to what a human can

no it isn't, a skinny twink bragging about being able to do 20 pullups is like me bragging about how many reps of bench i can do without taking weight into consideration

False. It's about how well you can handle your own bodyweight. If a 60kg guy can do more pullups than you, congrats, you are weaker than him. That's why even powerlifting competitions have weight classes. It's all proportional to your own bodyweight.

Because:
>The more muscles are involved, more muscles can fatigue (using the bicep which does in a chin up)
>You practised more Pullups than Chinups

That feel when i did 33 strict in the miliatary.
>Blowing the scale
>What category am i even in

I am god?

Obviously you're forgetting it is a bodyweight exercise. A 120kg man doing 8 is more exceptional than a 60kg man doing 15. Period

Fair enough, I'm probably biased because I'm not really a lifter myself.

When progressing you do weighted pull ups too though. Even when adjusting to the same "bodyweight" the non lifter can be way stronger. Also what said, weight classes are a thing in olympic weightlifting for a reason.

it depends on your bodyweight

being able to do 20 at over 200lbs is impressive. if you are 150lbs then 20 +50lbs is impressive

>0.5
>10-12 depending on bodyweight a minimum
>12

Because pullups require strong lats and youre weak as shit back cant handle it

>3-4
>10
>0 I hurt myself yesterday :(

>120kg man doing 8 is more exceptional than a 60kg man doing 15.
>120x8=960
>60x15=900
No shit. Hes doing more volume. If the light guy did two more then he would be empirically stonger in that body area.

I know kipping is a meme but if you can do 106 without stopping that's still pretty impressive

>8 pullups at 270lbs
Mirin

How far up do you need to go to count it? My endpoint is when my entire head is above the bar, where the bar is at my clavicle. Is this too much?

Same.
Btw, are pull ups and chin ups any different? Say if I do starting strenght, is it ok to so pullups (palms outwards) over the suggested chinups if I prefer them?

I'm NatSoc and keeping strong for the coming race war, so I come to the chans for /pol/ but Veeky Forums is a hobby
Was into combat sports and endurance sports when young. Got out of shape in 30s, office jobs. Got motivated in mid-40s and did the research and decided the best thing for overall fitness was to train like an athlete in a team sport that needs strength, so I modeled my routines after those kind of programs, hs and college football or rugby-style training.
Honestly I don't think my training will change much as older provided I don't have to work around any injury issues. I do low reps and medium reps on the main lifts in alternating weeks but pretty much never go for "true max 1rm", do accessories for medium reps, do some Olympics, do some calisthenics and plyos, everything I do can be scaled down for weaker older me but is easily scaled up as well. (because the plan is modeled after a middle-school/high-school plan)
Embarrassed by my low pullups b/c I've got some fat to lose, I don't watch diet that closely, married to a good cook
Only know who he is from Veeky Forums never watched. From what I understand he just ripped off SS and added accessories for his "program"

Willing to bet most people claiming high numbers are not doing proper dead hang pull ups. Get that half rep or momentum based shit outta here.

Explain this shit Veeky Forums

>hover around 95 kg 6'2 at 10% bf
>barely train. Days and even weeks off at a time.
>work in a coffee cart that's at a gym.
>walk past pull up bar and attempt one arm pull up
>do it
>wtf.jpeg

It's just fkn weird cos I when I was training my hardest and eating "properly" i couldn't even get close. I've trained on and off for a lot of my life but never came close to a one arm pull up.
