for getting in just focus on cardio fitness. Make sure you can do around 40pushups and about 50 situps

once youre in you will get a better idea of what kind of fitness you need to work on

I'm a strength coach who has done his research on tactical athlete.

Don't do some bull shit bodybuilder program

stick with the basics,

squat/deadlift/bench/ohp for 4-6 weeks

start incorporating runs for 2-3 weeks

after another 4 weeks of the combined add more speed / power movement into your workout. kettlebell, plyometrics etc

periodization, periodization, periodization

be more specific, as in a certain type of school or qualification because just basic fitness standards arent really a discussion.
Ranger school
BRPC
BUD/S

Should I do running incrementally?

Royal Marines/Engineers.

At the moment I'm doing 1.5 miles, but my ideal distance would be 5 miles.

Not OP but I posted a similar thread, if anyone has any advice that would be cool. I'm joining the Navy, leaving for basic in 2 weeks. I'm going down the FMF corpsman path, meaning essentially a marine medic.

For now I'm just running 40 min a day, and doing a routine of push ups, crunches, supermans, and other accessories like planks and side crunches. Does that sound reasonable?

Going into Navy (no spec ops bullshit)

I can run two miles no problem, and push ups and sit ups are piss easy. I should be fine right?

if youre trying to get into the Royal marines look up a good Tier2 SF training program (Rangers, G.B, RMC, USMC Raiders/Recon/MARSOC, 2CDO, JTF2 etc)

If you were joining the UK navy you'd only need to do 1.5 miles, 40 pushups and 35 situps and be able to swim with full gear.

That sounds reasonable to make sure youre fit enough for the entry standards. Once youre in start incorporating some lifts. But for now thats good

I'm joining the Royal Engineers first, and for my specialization I'm going into the Royal Marines.

that is very reasonable, implying youre eating healthy.

US Navy, looking at METOC (through ROTC for commission)

yes

everything in increments
think of the long term development of yourself bone density, possible stress fractures etc

If you break yourself within the first 16 weeks of your basic training say good bye to a career in kicking down doors.

once youre in start doing pack marches. Im sure the Royal Marines have a basic pre selection fitness program. Try to find other people from your unit who are training for selection then join them

I'd expect it'd be similar.

I'll do that. I would just join the Royal Engineers directly, but I want decent civilian qualifications.

I had a friend that got Veeky Forums before going into army bootcamp. He took a before and after and his after was drastically worse. He said they did pretty minimal shit and most cadets were out of shape fucks. You should be fine if you can jog or do the cardio portions

FMF corpsman here. Youll more than likely get sent to a hospital after A school and then you'll get fat as fuck because of the irregular hours. Have fun dumbass.

Monday - run moderate distance (2-4 miles) as fast as you can
Tuesday - do pushups situps Pullups and bodyweight squats Tabata style
Wednesday - run long distance (200-800m) sprints
Thursday - same as Tuesday but do them for longer than 20-30 seconds
Friday - long distance (4+ miles) at a comfortable pace

t. Former army nco

>he didnt read FM 7-22 (2012)

Perfect, thanks. Once I'm in and have more time I definitely look forward to lifting much heavier and going back to the GSLP lift most likely.

Did I piss in your coffee tough guy? I'm gonna be just fine, but I wish you luck on your own path buddy.

This could help

>no 10 mile friday packmarch

The Navy is fat as shit in my experience, minus the few odd seals and eod guys. Google Navy PRT standards, and if you can meet or exceed those then you are fine.

The bare minimum is really easy to achieve, but have some respect for yourself and the service and keep your body in good shape. I can speak to aviation and having a good fitness baseline pays dividends, especially when your body is getting put through stress like Gs, etc.

Have fun bitch boy. Mister "I'm gonna be an FMF corpsman" you'll end up in a maternity ward like a bitch.

Just be able to run over a mile without being completely dead and be able to do a moderate amount of push-ups and situps. I went through infantry OSUT with the US army starting at like 120 pounds, I left at 137 pounds to go to airborne. Left there with my fastest run time (13:48) and weighing 142 pounds. Currently 149 after cutting from 157 in the winter, but I digress.

Basic training is just that for American military: basic. Doesn't really matter how in or out of shape you are, the drill sergeants/instructors are there to break you down and rebuild you. No matter how Veeky Forums you are going in, you're gunna be sucking.

Now, if you're going on to spec ops shit like SF, Ranger batt, seals, MARSOC or PJs you're obviously going to need more conditioning. If you plan on this route, you need to make sure your mind won't break before your body as those selection processes are about 70% mental and 30% physical. This route will let you do lots of cool shit, but your personal life will suffer. You won't be able to have a "normal" family per se, but it can work out at times. Specifically with SF, just the bare minimum of training is almost 2 years after being selected, depending on MOS. Keep that in mind before you choose this. If you don't wanna do this, disregard.

Getting a simple, non-combat job in the military most of the time equates to relaxed standards for physical training. It doesn't take a lot of effort to keep the minimum, so if you just wanna get in and get out, keep that in mind.

It's all up to you and what you wanna do, though. I suggest a job that'll get you looking decent on civilian resumes, but hey. Sometimes you just wanna do cool shit (like standing by for hours on end) and shoot guns, like me.

>13:48
unless you were running 2miles thats a horrible run time. Especially for someone in the airborne

unless thats in cams/boots

kek, why are you such a moody little faggot? Stub your toe? Coffee too hot? Keep crying pansy ass, please.

>joining the military

It's 2 miles, they have you do the apft and meet the 18-21 year old standards to be admitted to the class.

ive got my enlistment in july and currently fasting trying to lose weight, im 15% bf atm and want to get to 10%

should i continue or just work on strength? my cardio is good

>I will die for the jews!

t. the biggest cucks ever

Run, pushups, pullups. Maybe take a pack for a hike but it really won't matter. It's basic, if you're a grunt you'll get your ass smoked, if you're a pogue you'll get it smoked a little less so.

>>>/reddit/

It couldn't be simpler if you're only worried about the PT test. Just do mock PT tests as your work out. And once a week throw some boots on and put some weight in a backpack and do a pseudo-ruck march. The easiest way to improve your push ups, sit ups, and run is to do push ups, sit ups, and run.

If you're getting ready to go to boot/basic, just do push ups sit ups and cardio. You're not gunna get built but you'll be a PT stud.

>not joining the military

>im 15% bf atm and want to get to 10%

Dude, why? A true 10% is lean as fuck, like the leanest (probably) natty guy at your gym. You don't need to be rail thin when you start basic, the exercise and caloric restriction will take care of that.

don't worry about gains at all if you haven't gone to basic yet. If you're in good shape going into basic, you will be in worse shape coming out. Your PT score will be better, but you'll lose a shit ton of mass because shitty diet, sleep habits, and pretty much only doing cardio.

>probably some 18 year old kid
>thinks he's gonna be a war hero with a CAR one day
>instead you get sent to a hospital
>whine like a bitch cuz you want to go greenside soooo bad

No ones gonna respect you. Be prepared to get shit on whenever you hit the fleet.

this. Whatever you're grand ideas are joining the military, just know that it is going to be 100000x less cool than that.

Jesus Christ, this is some fierce projection. I'm sorry you couldn't straighten your shit out friend. If I'm lucky I won't go near a war, I don't even want to go into the medical field. This shitty gig is just to save money for college, etc. I only want to be FMF because it sounds like fun, no need to get your panties in a twist.

that was actually helpful holy shit, the running stuff he mentioned was the first time ive seen it mentioned, everyone is always "hurr durr just run all the time"

Pull ups. You fuck. Everyone needs to do pull ups going into the military. And be able to do pushups x infinity.

Good point, I can make room for that in the routine. Appreciate it.

Do you lose gains after joining the military?

During/immediately after basic, yes. After that, you're basically on your own. Your cardio will be more or less taken care of, your strength will not. Do your morning PT and lift at night. My advice would actually be to prioritize hypertrophy over peak strength, something like 5/3/1 or Juggernaut, both with plenty of bodybuilding tacked on, would be my recommendation

PPCLI here

its not about the strength, its about endurance, stamina and cardio. strength helps but you need the others too

I HOPE YOU FUCKING DIE KYS IMMEDIATELY

For the Navy that is very incorrect you quick-judging ass clown

Lazy fatass squids

Us navy pretty much the same, except more sit ups and a stupid easy swim test

True af. My friend is stationed in okinawa and can't even leave the base.

Google bore punch
Its a damn shame you picked HM its one of the shittiest rates in the navy behind HT, CS and any undesignated

Got an e-mail from the Canadian forces asking if I'm interested in joining because of my technical skills. I'm 39 this year FYI. I've applied four different times over the last 22 years (95, 2003, 2008, 2015) and each time I pass the physicals and everything else only to be fucked by some bureaucratic worm. OP, unless you're 18, don't waste your time. Go to college and then you won't have a bunch of camouflaged cocksuckers screaming in your face and you can do whatever you like whenever you like. Fuck the military.

>Fighting for Israeli interests

shiggie

In a recent brief the general of the army said that the key indicator of those who passed the pathfinder course is lower body muscular endurance, literally how many air squats you can do

pastebin.com/Rx0nDuga

Royal Engineers and Royal Marines are two completely different things. You can specialise as an assault engineer as an RM but a Royal Engineer can not specialise as a Royal Marine. Best you can do is do the AACC which will give you the commando qual but you will not be a Royal Marine.
