I hated that too. By the time the Buu saga rolled around, the only characters who were able to do much of anything were Saiyans.

Seems like he's trying to fix that now though. There are a lot of powerful alien/interdimensional characters who aren't Saiyans. Hit, The Pride Force, Buu, and Jiren the Gray all look pretty great. I even think it's cool that Krillin has been getting a lot of development so he's not completely useless.
