You might want to looj at actual statistics. For example, we pay a third of what the US pays for healthcare per person. However, we have a higher life expectancy. Even as a percentage of GDP it's like 2/3rds of the US. And we have the privilege of not having to worry about which health insurance to get or to offer employees such and such a package and so forth.

The expectation of an informed consumer for healthcare is absurd. It's a product that people rarely use so they will have little experience with it, it's incredibly time consuming to get educated on what's necessary or not and what the general cost of what you need is, both hospitals and insurance companies can have regional monopolies inflating costs and finally it's a purchase made under the duress of illness with time constraints due to potential lost wages from illness.

The situation a consumer is in when they're struck with illness is like having their car break down except now they have to buy a new car to get to work with no public transportation options, no dealership has a sticker price on any vehicle and your insurance company and dealership are competing to fuck each other as hard as possible with all of the consumers there to take the creampie when the victor pulls out.
