Neanderthals look exactly like us because they are the same genus as us without thick fur most animal species in a genus would be impossible to tell apart by sight alone, that is us hominids all of us barely have fur so we ALL LOOK ALIKE no matter what. The only difference is our cranium shapes and as we have seen the gorilla shaped skull is VERY COMMON in hominids like Erectus, Ergaster, Naledi and of course our subspecies the african niggers.

The advancement of the ice sheets during the Ice Age post 60,000 BC (which reached their maximum around 20,000 BC, after the Neanderthals died out) gradually pushed the Neanderthals out of their homeland of Europe into us. The neanderthals moved out due to struggles in coping with the ice age, so they naturally had some trouble dealing with already well-established people who were well-equiped and adapted to living in a climate the neanderthals were unused to.
The neanderthals lost battles to us, considering we were more familiar with the terrain and weren't malnourished. Those that didn't die by our hand might've been welcomed into certain tribes/groups, which they interbred with until there was no distinction between us and them.

It's also possible we had more people as well (neanderthals could have experienced high infant mortality as a result of the colder weather), plus malnourishment makes you a manlet.
Also keep in mind that a neanderthal likely would have been indistinguishable from us. Worst case scenario they just looked a bit weird or inbred. It's not like they appeared to be gods descended from olympus. And the technological gap wasn't that large. You're acting like Neanderthals vs. Sapiens (mind you both are humans) would have been like Spanish vs. Aztecs.
