Spartans were a bunch of sodomites that never wrote anything down. The GOAT Hellenes were the Macedonians who actually did something of worth. The Age of Pericles was basically two generations. Two. The spread of Hellenic culture to the ends of the Earth was jump started by Alexander. And since Alexander, civilizations in the West enjoyed monarchical like rule until the Modern age (yes even the Republic had a monarchical element, and no I am not counting the tribes of Germanic peoples). Athenian democracy was a sham. It kept getting subverted with tyrants sprouting left and right. Republicanism was and is a much better system of governance.
