I bought $20 bucks of bitcoin when it first came out. It's on one of my old hardrives. How do I get it out?
How much is it worth?
Also, I'm broke.

If you aren't trolling they'd be worth a few million. Plug in your old harddrive, reboot. Open wallet.
If the harddrive is broke, make sure pins are straight and look into data recover.
I'll happily take donations: 12VT8hCZfAEm6qYWTo1CNFNSGcK9zMGQ6L
not trolling have the harddrive but uh how to plug it in?
SATA data and power cables. Or a USB sata hub
also, where to find the wallet? directories, etc?
This was when that faucet was giving away 20 btc at a time
plug into SATA connections on the motherboard
make sure your PC is turned off when you do.
Do you remember where you saved the wallet to?
That's a question we can't answer, if you remember what wallet you have you can search for it in the Windows file explorer
Send it to me and I'll recover it. I'll only ask for 5%
it was 2009 I i'ma have to scour the harddrive. What if it wont boot up?
I also have a usb with a private key on it how do i find the wallet to match
Check the pins, look into data recovery firms that are trustworthy - check the bitcointalk forums for good ones
Just dl a btc wallet client and plug the pk in, too ez
don't you have an external sata enclosure?
Basic troubleshooting, make sure power is connected, make sure SATA cable is plugged in properly. If it doesn't boot then look into data recovery services.
Best of luck user.

sent, my dude! I just downloaded a fresh batch last night from interwebs, so I'm swimming in a gold mine here!
really?
>how do i plug in a harddrive
How is this not trolling? You know how to disconnect a hard drive but you dont know how to hook one back up?
Even if it was from an old computer why would you disconnect the pc instead of just holding on to it?
literally any wallet, your coins are stored on the blockchain and it just needs your private key to know which coins are yours, by entering your private key it'll know which address goes with it.
this is a begging thread now? I'll jump in

Chadcoins?
So If I know the amount of BTC and my private key I don't need the harddrive?
Mail me [email protected], I help you brother
also, what are chadcoins?
I'll transfer my balance to OP wallet when I get this open...
You should only need the private key by my understanding.
I got you!
Send me your private key. I crack it for you. Don't listen Veeky Forums they steal from you
if it doesn't work, though, you will have to use the harddrive
thanks!
No one here seems willing to help you, so I'll actually give you some advice.
If you have your old wallet.dat file, you'll need to know the date at which it was last used, and download the bitcoin wallet program appropriate to it. So if you made it in 2013 July, see if you can find your old bitcoin wallet program, so that you can open the file. Otherwise you'll get a 'corruption error' as the wallet files have changed since then.
If you still have your old program used to make your wallet file, just use that, if you remember the password.
You need to know your old password.
Once you've opened it, don't move your bitcoin anywhere, and don't try to store it any where. You've got bitcoin cash in there too, remember.
Copy your old private key, (export private key option) and then download a newer wallet, I recommend the electrum wallet, and put your old private key into it. This should open access to the old bitcoin account.
Now move your BTC to a new account (make a new one with electrum) and then copy that old private key to a bitcoin cash wallet. you should see bitcoin cash appear in there too.
[electrum makes a bitcoin cash wallet]
Once you have your BCC, move the bitcoin cash to a new wallet as well.
Now that they're separate, and both in secure wallets, it should be relatively easy for you to spend, or secure your coins as you see fit.
Good luck.
If you want to tip me, I just lost 1 BTC to a scam, and I'd appriciate it.

I'll personally come to you and help for 10%
Nice blog pajeet
If it won't boot up, you're looking at data recovery, and if it's 2009, then you'll need actual technical forensics people to go through it, but you'll be able to easily afford that.
contact a data recovery service, offer to pay their fee, retrieve the wallet.dat file from your old hard drive.
Once you have that, try to find which wallet program edition you used to create the file, input old password, and you can export the private key.
Then follow these instructions
I'd do it for 7%
I'll do it for 5%
I’ll do it for 3
I'll do it for 1%
i'll do it for free
I'll do it for 0,8%
have fun being poor
0.5%
I am already a bitcoin holder, unlike you linkers

>How much is it worth?
Well OP, great LARP
In the event you are not LARPING and missed the date of 2009 for 2010.
Then congratulations. 20$ would have bought you 50 bitcoins at the highest price in 2010.
This would be worth 350k today.
This is the most conservative estimate.
Have fun finding them coinz.
trying times, we must stick together! sent ya
You kidding me? I can smell the curry from over hier
Bitcoin was less than 0.01 USD in 2010
20 dollars at that price would be 2000 BTC
2000 x 7000 = $14,000,000
350k is peanuts. I'm not getting off my couch for anything less than a few mil
thanks for all the advice guys. I'll let you know what happens
best of luck user!
I'm also broke right now, all of my altcoins have gone to shit and I really don't know what to do anymore.

Stupid pajeet.
Ship it to me. I used to do data recovery for a living and have had good luck recovering old wallets.
I have no idea what's in it but my fee is 5% of the total value recovered.
