The guy is saying the Mongols didn't go forward with conquering. Mongols defeated the Hungarians, Russians, the Polish decisively. However they weren't able to reap the rewards because the invasion was called off right at the brink of victory. The main issue being Hungarian king Bela hiding/running. The mongols didn't gain legitimacy because of this.

It's not about the strength of the castles its about how fucking many there were, either they have to advance without taking them and get their rear harassed constantly or besiege them all which would mean spreading the army extremely thin

Its not so much that they couldn't destroy castles, its they as defensive fortifcations were LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. This is also in addition to the fact that Eastern, Central and Western Europe during those timeframes were fairly rugged landscapes which did not conform well to steppe warfare and did not have the capacity to support a sustained campain in terms of water, fodder or available food in terms of plunder.
