wasn't Veeky Forums created like 2 years ago or something like that, though?

yes...

OP is probably 19

>actually letting Veeky Forums affect your political beliefs

wtf is wrong with you

idk man I used to browse Veeky Forums a fair amount in my early 20's before there was a Veeky Forums board and I was being of strange contradictions. I was in great physical shape and spent a lot of time socializing, but I had no confidence and was aimless in a professional/academic sense. After being completely away from Veeky Forums for about 3 years and enrolling in a Master's program I've started to come back a couple times a week to browse this board and some others and I feel that familiar sense of dread and filthy indolence that characterized my experience here those years ago.

It's not Veeky Forums it's you

WTF, isn't Veeky Forums only like a year old?

You have to be at least 18 to post on this board. Because you're clearly American, applying the 5-year rule gives a generous estimate of your mental age at 14 years. Go back to /v/.

Going to uni made me realise every single /pol/ meme about higher education was right.

Back in my day we had to piece together our history discussion from threads scattered through /k/, /pol/, and /int/

Really? It did the opposite for me. I've dealt with poisonous leftism in school all my life, but the more I advance the less it's appearing. I can say with certainty that abrupt leftist spin is more prevalent in lower education than higher education.

I think the problem was that I had no experience with public education before university, I was always in private catholic schools. So going from that to student unions controlling campus, interrupting classes to tell people to come to general assemblies, or professors using “neutral language” (instead of a gendered like normal here) in official emails and telling us to go protest was a pretty big shock. But the actual teaching was neutral: the worse shock was going for a semester to study in the US where professors don’t seem to care at all about an appearance of academic neutrality.
It seemed crazy to me, even here where literal marxists can block campus for a week with no consequences, it’s not that bad. Our academic culture is very strict about leaving personal opinions out, we can’t even use “I” anywhere in a paper or a presentation, and professors usually respect that. That’s where I realised complaints about American colleges were justified. I had professors talk about Trump in lectures (before the election) and make remarks about sexism or racism in classe where it just wasn’t relevant.

But you’re right: I’m in my first year of a master now, and it’s getting better. Students just don’t have the time to deal with this stuff.

Quite the opposite for me, my lecturers straight up love shitting on Marxist arguments in political theory and historiography.

It’s almost 3

>letting the worst of both sides inform your opinoins on both

do you have a windup string attached do your brain OP?

It's more exposure to current events, browsing Veeky Forums just makes it a lot harder to ignore the controversy of the day

>Why are these people caring about their beliefs
Baaawww

>be this retarded
epic

this tbqh desu senpai

This guy knows what's up, if you're literally not mentally fit enough to use the internet, you shouldn't browse Veeky Forums in the same sense someone who doesn't know anything about training should do CrossFit.
This guy as well.

>chimping out=caring
Nice argument.

Ughhhhh that hurt to read.

Are you me?

>alt left
Kys desu

Opposite here
It made me realize /pol/ memes were a way to make you "meme" reality, completely fucking your way of percieving reality. Dont drink the koolaid; /pol/ is literally a Kek suicide cult.

Literally this.
user had a scary time because he saw people actually thinking and arguing; and being unprepared for it; retreated into solitude and isolation; the perfect spot for /pol/ indoctrination.

Tbh marx was an idiot, but in the land of the blind; the one-eyed is king.

underrated post.

It is safe to say that if your political opinions are in any way swayed by some shitty animu imageboard, you are mentally weak and your opinions are not worth much in the first place.

Also, Veeky Forums is a radical centrist board, not right-wing. Way to out yourself newfriend form /pol/.

This.

Veeky Forums is, in order of most common to least common

>monarchist
>radical centrist
>socdem

...

>Veeky Forums is a radical centrist board
>threads on natsoc/romanswerewhite/pol-tier shit everyday
>b-b-ut its all coming from /pol/!!!

>Brose Veeky Forums in high school
wow you must be pretty fucking young

Veeky Forums is a reactionary conservative monarchist board, buckos.

>go to college with loans and dad's money
>never had a job
>go left

Sounds right.

OP here. 20. Prior to browsing Veeky Forums I would still use Veeky Forums often.
Might seem that way. But the courses I've taken have been taught by respectable, well-informed professors with a genuine passion and understanding of history/historical method as a discipline and its had an effect in the way I look at the past.
As much as I love history, I'd rather apply to be a Navy SEAL than attempt to go through grad school for history.

>monarchist
I haven't browsed Veeky Forums in a few months, but where do you get this idea from? I've seen full throated monarchist posteurs and made friends with a monarchist, but even then, its always seemed like a handful of staunch defenders of their yokes vs a legion of liberty's children.

Brainwashing, social pressure, and unhealthy lifestyle (college cucks don't sleep or eat well, causing hormonal issues, and when they do eat it's quick meal processed shit laced with soy and other phytoestrogens)

Ah, the containment shitposting threads. That's where we trap /pol/tards.

>As much as I love history, I'd rather apply to be a Navy SEAL than attempt to go through grad school for history.
So why don't you join the Navy?

I don't know why anybody sits and pretends as if the majority of Veeky Forums is a bastion for genuine discourse on history. This place is replete with the same threads, typically a single greentext shitpost meme sentence accompanied by a relevant picture, which turn into an autistic shitslinging charade where people who have no idea what the hell they're talking about feel free to post nonsense.

When this board was first created there were, like, 5 good posts

Grad school is where you go to get a phd, undergrad is your typical out-of-highschool four year shabang.

>byzantines =/= roman
>what if hitler did x
>were ___ white
>why havent black people done anything
>did ___ deserve it

Same here, LITERALLY first day in Law school and the teacher invited us to a lecture on misogyny in "the Big Bang theory" and complained about congress being too white kek

And /pol/ is constantly bombarded with bait thread about "huh makes you think" and "/pol/ BTFO" or "she's right you know". By your logic, /pol/ is a pan-sexual communist liberal socialist trans-political board.

In the first week this board was up there were, like, 5 good posts. Since then, nothing.

>I don't know why anybody sits and pretends as if the majority of Veeky Forums is a bastion for genuine discourse on history
Because once you ignore the obviously inflammatory bait threads, decent to good discussion isn't that difficult to find, though note, I browse infrequently, so one good thread every once in a while gives me a perception unshared by people who browse more frequently.

>defending Veeky Forums
These bait threads still garner ungodly amounts of replies and are constantly bumped to the front page for nearly a week before dying out. What's different is that this board is much smaller than /pol/ so the shitposting is more prevalent and inescapable.

...

That doesn't answer my question

The point was that, from my understanding in talking to people with history doctorates, the process is long, grueling, and guaranteed to serve as a financial burden for decades with little reward at all. I'm not saying it's harder than being a Navy SEAL, I was just making a comparison as both are monumentally difficult undertakings that I would not be interested in.

Going for a PhD in something useful like finance, then?

Polls put us at a third, I think, pretty consistently. Though many Veeky Forums "monarchists" are probably just Brits and Canadians who love the queen, though don't really want her to have power, and stuff like that.

Veeky Forums is just /int/ without flags
>my country is better than your country
>my country invented digital velcro and reusable tampons
>IQ maps, GDP maps, cock size maps, haplogroup maps
>my ancestors wuz kangz and your ancestors wuz peasants
>why do [nationality I hate] think they were [something great] when they were really [something shitty]?
>everyone immidiately jumping to ad hominem and experiencing SEVERE butthurt once they read something negative about their country
I often encounter the "you must be the Swede/Pole/Turk/whatever poster" line and have no idea what they're fucking talking about until I realize they all come from that shithole board and aren't even ashamed of admitting it.

History majors have a tendency to pursue lawschool.

>moderate centerist

Centerists are fucking useless politically.

>t. registered democrat
God I fucking hate this attitude.

Man, when this board was created it had like a solid 5 good posts.

>browse Veeky Forums

No surprise you managed to be folled /pol/ meme ideology and SJW meme ideology

What? I'm not who you were replying to, I just was mocking your English. Probably foreign.
