Hence nowadays actors are perceived as skilled artists. Fun fact: In the infancy of the movie industry, producers tried to downplay the importance of actors for fear that they would start expecting more pay. But people still spotted commonly used actors and the best ones became popular favorites. Eventually, producers decided to just go with the flow and play up the star power of popular actors to sell movies. Since then, people have only gotten more and more interested in movie stars, their personal lives, their political views, etc.
