Rommel

What made him so special?

he was exceedingly kind to his P.O.W.s if i remember correctly

Salvaged the North African campaign, that's about it

Literally nothing. Just some Wehrmacht sympathizers in the British camp who wanted to perpetuate the notion of "clean wehrmacht". They were dogs - all of them and deserved death.

He got sent off to a tertiary theatre while the big boys were fighting the real war. That, in turn, made him the only notable adversary of the Brits who were kinda forced into building him up into a mythical figure.

His rise through the ranks based on connection to Hitler instead of through standard military advancement meant that he was a living embodiment of the Peter Principle, as well as giving him an incredible disdain for the chain of command, which is why he tended to ignore everyone who tried to tell him he was embarking on bad ideas.

It was quite simple really.

>Brits need a way to conveniently explain all their defeats in 1941-1942
>can't admit that the vast majority of fighting in North Africa and Balkans is actually being done by Italians because Italians are supposed to be an inferior race
>can't admit that our forces are kind of shit
>OH I KNOW
>THE ENEMY IS LED BY A TACTICAL GENIUS
>(who if not for his friendship with Hitler would probably just be another corps commander in the east)

Combine this with:
>war is over
>we need to denazify Germany and emphasize that Nazi Germany sucked
>but we also need an acceptable sign of German militarism so we can build another army to defend it against potential commie invasions
>OH I KNOW
The same guy fulfilled these two roles, and the rest is history.

As commander of Panzerarmee Afrika he controlled more mobile forces than just about any army-level commander in the east. Number of men doesn't tell the whole story here. He wasn't being shunted off, he was trusted with quite a bit of responsibility.

Panzerarmee Afrika had max of 6 mobile divisions. Each of the 3 panzer armies had 9-10 mobile divisions. So I think your claim that Rommel controlled more mobile forces than just about any army-level commander in the east is either mistaken or a red herring.

Kys, retard.

he was really good during the Battle of France and was sent to bail out the eyeties so he couldn't help but look better, not a bad commander at all, not really worth wanking over tho

>whoa so THIS is the power of German military...

Children think Rommel was a genius
Teenagers prefer Manstein or Guderian
Adults realize that Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck had it right

>Reddit-Vorbeck
Literally a bigger meme than Rommel.

>ywn see Vorbeck lead an elite regiment of Rwandan paratroopers into Nazi Germany with the help of FDR leading the Rough Riders in a steam powered wheelchair, the entire Confederate army and Prince Charles to save a 9 month pregnant Anne Frank.
Why live?

He wasn't super special, he was just recognized more because he was in charge of an entire theater of war where he managed to be fighting incompetent English generals and commanders so was successful.

Patricians know Walter Model was better.

This needs to be made a reality. For the love of god, someone commission this!

This, which was a huge fucking feat considering the Italians slipped up the entire time and the Brits had a huge fucking presence. And then he the Brits tried to encircle him so he performed a double encirclement on them and predicted their movement down to the hour. He's probably one of the most underrated generals all things considered. Top five WW2 generals of all time. Better than Manstein.

IF YOU HAVE ANY LOVE FOR THIS BOARD AT ALL, YOU WILL MAKE A SHORT HENTAI/MANGA OF THIS

>She's riding Hitler
>right next to them is Princess Peach riding Bowser and Zelda riding Ganondorf

Brits fellated him to boost their own ego and he became an icon of the "clean Wehrmacht".

...and masterminds know that Budyonny was the best

>modeling WW2 generals based on the age of people you think like them
>doesn't provide any evidence for the average ages
>doesn't even provide a rationale for the list

>doesn't even recognize the flaws in using such a system and doesn't break down whether the adult has any mental conditions

Why even bother posting if your too lazy to provide any detail.

>over analyzing a meme post
>fucking 9 hours later
Autism

Ascended realise that Colmar Freiherr von der Goltz is the master behind it all

this

he was the least war-crimey German general so NATO engaged in a propaganda campaign to convince people he was the best German general to justify ending de-nazification

>"clean wehrmacht"

Are people just memeing or does anyone actually believe Wehrmacht commited more atrocities than any other army in WW2 or war in general...?

Willy's biggest fuck ups were in foreign relations

>does anyone actually believe Wehrmacht commited more atrocities than any other army in WW2 or war in general
yes
the red army or IJA might come close though

>not Hernann Balck

1. they did commit more atrocities than the allied armies (other than the Red Army)
2. whether they committed "more" doesn't matter in reference to the Clean Wehrmacht myth, which says they barely did anything wrong and it was all the SS

>When your tank commander dosen't believe in armoured warfare
They'll never see it coming

German colonial guy who ran a mostly black army with white officers around German East Africa making the South Africans terminally butthurt about being beaten by those damn kaffirs

They committed more than most aside from the Red Army
