Fucking a lot of women. No wonder you're so pudgy.

They used to lift weights.
There are numerous accounts saying that strong men would eat lots of beef and would lift heavy weights.

There's a passage in one Seneca's letters where he describes living on top of a gymnasium in an erotic manner.
Wrestling alone would get you stronger.

The wealthy probably had better nutrition than you do, and even the common people, barring periods of war and famine, had a varied and nutritious diet
Also, you don't need modern workout equipment to get fit, they just make the process easier and more convenient.

They didn't, thats just an idealized form.

Since when did they have improper nutrition? Ancient Greeks and Romans mostly had a varied, healthy diet.

Then they work in the field all day or fight all day or beat slaves all day - you get swole.

Because, unlike most people in developed countries today, they actually conducted in physical labour from childhood all the way until death.
Their entertainment was likely more active than the likes of browsing Veeky Forums.
Furthermore, the foods they consumed had fewer saturated fats and, despite common myth, most had plenty of food in a balanced nutritional diet. An example of such historical people were the Anglo-Saxons who had a spectacularly excellent diet with incredibly healthy teeth, even by today's standards. Furthermore most Anglo-Saxons were either Farmers, builders, blacksmiths, carpenters or warriors. All labour intensive tasks

Physical labour is the complete opposite of patrician

Well maybe being a patrician is pretty fucking degenerate

There's already a thread about this exact topic. But you knew that, since you went out of your way to post a pic of the same statue of Hercules

The Jews didn't have the means yet to spread degeneracy

Unironically didn't know that thread existed

>everyone starved in the past!
Working out can take many forms, they had things like athletics and strength training, and ofc fighting is a great form of exercise. As to nutrition, a farmer might have had to make do with bread alone, but a warrior-aristocrat would have eaten mostly meat.

A body like this isn't the result of some manlet overcompensation-tier 2-3 year crash lifting course. It's achieved with decades of varied physical activity and quality nutrition- something the average modern pleb could not really achieve in the current socio-economic conditions.

>everyone starved in the past!
That's not even close to what user said. There is a lot of middle ground between a literal Mr. Olympia and starving skeletons.

Repost:

Most Greek men were not in that type of shape and many too young and old to serve in the levy according to Xenophon.

> As for numbers,' he said, `of course as great a force might march out of some other city also; but armies made up of citizens1 include men who are already advanced in years and others who have not yet come to their prime. Furthermore, in every city very few men train their bodies, but among my mercenaries no one serves unless he is able to endure as severe toils as I myself.' Xen. Hell. 6.1.5

In fact Xenophon tells us that men who trained their bodies were the subject of mockery in Athens.

>“That means that it is a long march for our city to perfection. For when will Athenians show the Lacedaemonian reverence for age, seeing that they despise all their elders, beginning with their own fathers? When will they adopt the Lacedaemonian system of training, seeing that they not only neglect to make themselves fit, but mock at those who take the trouble to do so? Xen. Mem. 3.5.15

In order to cultivate a body like the OP's picture you needed a special diet and be able to have the time to train your body. Most Greeks, aside from the leisure class, had no time to do that.

Were Greek athletes all upper-class, or did wealthy patrons sometimes sponsor poorer athletes? I doubt that slaves would be permitted to compete in sanctified competitions, but what about commoners who showed exceptional promise?

you're both retarded dyels who have no sense of scale due to seeing too many juicy fuckers
steroids are a lot lot more popular than people think (every single bodybuilder, strongman, most olympic athletes, almost all Hollywood stars known for being big, 99% of fitness instagrammers, etc. etc. - rule of thumb is if they're getting paid in some form or another for having muscle there's a well over 90% chance they're juicing) and due to that many don't really know how a natural bodybuilder looks
that guy is too big for a natty and being that it's a statue of fucking Hercules that's intentional

pic related is guaranteed natty because steroids weren't really a thing in his time and is considered pretty much the natty limit
if you see anyone much bigger than this guy claiming natty that guy is 99% bullshitting - and make no mistake even if they're not that big they're probably juicing as well
one example that surprises many people is that Christian Bale almost certainly used steroids to get big enough to play Batman

Pic related.

In antiuity, manual labor was considered a thing of the lower classes.

Also for an interesting view on fitness in ancient Greece see Iphikrates respond here:

>one example that surprises many people is that Christian Bale almost certainly used steroids to get big enough to play Batman
I don't know why this would surprise people.

That's a fantastical idealization. They probably looked a lot more like this from a life of soldiering, manual labor and participation in sports. They were lean, but not joocii and jacked. That's a statue of Hercules, so of course he's gonna be depicted as gigantic.

I mean this is their depiction of a barbarian and even he's not that big.

Only this

The muscles and contours are accurately depicted.
So they would have to have seen or at least spoken to men who have seen someone who was that huge.

Their daily life was a workout routine

Veeky Forums here. You don't know what you're talking about

artist sclupted the body using athletes and youth models.

then the artist sculpted the head and attached it to the body.

classical photoshop pretty murch.

>The muscles and contours are accurately depicted.
Not really. Look at this statue of Hercules. The trapezius muscle does not insert like that, and neither do the lats. In OP's Hercules, his abdominal muscles are way too big for how vascular he is, and the "love handles" should be an extension of the external obliques but instead they're just plopped on as big muscles.
dyel?

This was before the corporate Jew

How fit was the average hoplite?

>living on top of a gymnasium in an erotic manner.
I read this as his living arrangement was erotic.

>Their entertainment was likely more active than the likes of browsing Veeky Forums.
The roman notion of entertainment was sitting on your butt watching other people sport. The only difference from today was that later on the chariot parties were also your political party.

>The roman and various hellenic empires weren't cesspools of degeneracy.
Pick up a history book.

The romans were notorious fitness freaks.
When some senator on a diplomatic mission visited the immensly obese Ptolemaic Pharaoh in Alexandria he forced him to give him a brisk tour of the city. When he eventually got back to Rome and was asked about his trip to Egypt he replied that he atleast had showed the alexandrians that their monarch was capable of walking.

On a side note roman diplomacy is fucking hilarious.

>one example that surprises many people is that Christian Bale almost certainly used steroids to get big enough to play Batman
I doubt that anyone somewhat familiar with Bale's tendency to change body type is not aware of the likelyhood of him using steroids.

*fucking a lot of boipussy

He's obviously dying of malnutrition.

There's no such thing as an average (non-mercenary) hoplite. They were an ecclectic collection of citizen militia that contained younglings, men in their prime and greying grandparents in their fifties.

>t. dyel

Well unlike then we haven't gone through ages of becoming physically weaker because everything is made nice and easy for the lazy dickweed. And they lifted weights and over all they had a damned job, a good diet of meat and fish, especially fish. And about nutrition and such you do not always need it I mean just look at those in prison who are massively ripped while consuming the most nutrition starved food on the face of the Earth provided by the prison system are fucking ripped becuase they have little else to do but work out to stay strong and remain in the food chain, it only takes a lot of dedication.

This

Prison food is required by law to meet all nutritional requirements of the human body at a healthy weight

Im claiming you can get bigger than what he said by being natty you dumbfuck

I know what you said and I know you said it because you're a clueless dyel

The ancient greeks invented the gymnasium, physical fitness was more important to them than most.

That said, your image is a statue of Heracles so it's intentionally made with impossibly massive muscles.

Those oblique muscles are fantastically huge.

...

>How did ancient people get so fit

First keep in mind that these are idealized statues based on athletes, the top of society.

>without proper workout equipment

Define "proper workout equipment". You just need resistence training. Weights are not some complex technology, and you can add in Wrestling, rope climbing, etc as activities.

>and nutrition?

Their diets would be fine, and athletes would have access to good food.

>Dude, how did people in the 19th century get so big without proper workout equipment and nutrition?

t. Professor steinberg

>Not getting the most obvious of jokes.

He obviously died from crucifixion

>Being so afraid of the truth that you think jews are behind everything.
