That stuck out at me though, because as I understand it, that pretty much just boils down to living how the church says to. That is some 1984 tier doublethink if you ask me. Freedom is fundamentally ability to choose. But the cannot truly choose is his choices are based on lie. But if they are based on Truth then it's logical that man ought to choose True above false, good over evil, even though he can choose otherwise. This is pretty much what Catholics believe. Its a definition of freedom which pretty much ignores any sort of modern legal definition and instead uses some abstract Catholic theology.
In other words the church's definition is functionally meaningless to anyone who does not accept their assumptions. Now you could say that about almost any definition, but we prefer as a society definitions that apply the the largest number of people possible.
